More half marathon

Has anyone done this half in NYC? How bad are the hills? I would like to do the Allstate Half on 3/22 and do the more half. But just reading about the hills and the elevation is scaring me a little. I don't want to injure myself either. The Allstate half would be my first half. It's either I do these two or do Allstate and LI half.

The hills were definitely tough, there is 1 that I remember being really hard and the worst is you run the loop twice. Even though its tough, I did my best time ever. It was my favorite race to date, I think I might do it again this year.

More half marathon

I did the More Half and I really enjoyed it however it is a hilly course. Like the above posted said there is one big hill but it's a lot of fun! I wish you it wasn't 2 loops though around CP lol

More half marathon

The Central Park hills aren't too bad. But going around twice is a little boring. It's a fun race.

Re: More half marathon

I've done it 4 times and just signed up, making this year my 5th!

They change the running direction every year, and this year it's counter clockwise, which I find to be a bit more challenging. There are two major hills. The first is the Boathouse Hill which you'll hit at mile 1.5 and 7.5. The other is the Harlem Hill, which you'll hit around miles 3.5 and 9.5.

It's definitely a bit boring to circle the park twice, but the energy of this race is awesome. Back in '09, it was my first ever half marathon and the spirit of all these women coming together to achieve a goal is fantastic. I distinctly remember having to starting to walk at one point, and a random woman stopped to encourage me to keep going.

As for running two so close, I did both the NYC and MORE one year (while preggo which I didn't even know at the time!), with only 4 weeks in between. It ended up being ok - I rested a week, and then went back to wk 10 in my training plan to prep for the 2nd race.

Feel free to FM me with any other questions. I'm a big proponent of this race, so happy to help with any info.

Re: More half marathon

Thanks everyone. I decided not to do the More half and do it next year. I'm going to do the LI Half instead. Chat Icon
