.4 position??
I currently work in NYC, can someone explain to me these part time positions. I understand there are no medical benefits but how does the pay scale and schedule usually work for a .4 position?
Any help would be appreciated. TIA

I'm a HS teacher on LI
.4 means you teach 2 periods per day instead of 5 periods
the pay is 40% of the salary

Yep! Exactly what the poster above said. It's 40% of everything...salary, workload, etc. In our school (high school in Nassau), part time teachers also don't have to hold extra help on all days and don't have to attend all faculty/department meetings. During midterm week and Regents week, they also get fewer proctoring assignments. It probably varies by school, but in my district, anything above a .5 gives you insurance benefits.

Where can u find these positions? On li or in the city? I thought they were really hard to come by in nyc.

This was a posted LI job on OLAS. In my experience I have never seen postings like this in the city.
