Reward system for 3-6 year olds

Hello everyone! I haven't been on this website in a while. It's nice to be back!

I was wondering if anyone has tried a reward system with stickers? It is mainly for my 3.5 year old who is an ANGEL at school, but not at home. I bought 2 nice binders and a bunch of nice stickers- big ones and little ones, but all either 3D or have something special about them.

I just don't know how and when to give them. I don't want it to be complicated, and I want something that I will be able to follow through with. I tried using 'X's on a chalk board to count bad behavior. so at the end of the day they either had three stickers for no 'Xs. two stickers for one 'X'. three 'X's gets no sticker.

Do time-outs mean no stickers that day at all? do they get one big sticker when they don't get a time out, or have bad behavior three days in a row? these are my questions. I tried this with tiny stickers, and at the end of the road map they got a prize, but that was expensive, and the real reward was too far away. That's why I am trying the nice stickers in a scrapbook idea.

Has anyone tried this? how did you tally up the sticker rewards?

I used to use coupons. Each coupon was earned by doing something that she was told to do (brush your teeth, put dishes in sink, put laundry away), or by doing something extra without being told. We called them "rave reviews".

I only praised, never punished bad behavior. So they never got any taken away.

I kept it pretty simple. Find out what she wants at the end of getting say 10 stickers/coupons whatever you use. She can't get this "prize" at any other time. That is what I struggled with the most. A little dum dum lollipop wasn't going to cut it with my kids. They got those at school, in goody bags, halloween, etc.

For my kids, each rave review was equal to $.25, so they could save and use for iTunes. Or they could collect and get 10 and get to stay up 1/2 hour late on a sat, watch an extra show, etc.

Again all of the prizes should be special so that they incentivize your DD to behave!

That is a good idea, Stinger. Maybe after ten stickers, I can also give them time with mommy up a half hour later doing a puzzle or watching a tv show, or something.

Thanks for the tips.
