Tuition at nycdoe school?
I know if you are a nycdoe teacher you can apply for a variance to have your child attend the school you teach at if you live in one of the 5 boros. I've heard of teachers from nassau bringing their kids to the nycdoe school they work at in queens to attend school while in elementary school for convenience.
Has anyone heard of this? Do you know what the cost is?

My question is..if you don't live in the 5 boroughs, why would you do this?! But seriously...there's a lot to consider having your child in your school...

Re: Tuition at nycdoe school?
Several teachers in my school do this. I think it is terrible to put the other teachers in that position. While most of the parent/teachers are ok, there are a couple who are very unprofessional when it comes to their own children. This makes the other teachers uncomfortable.
Also now as a teacher you become the parent of the child who becomes part of the neighborhood too. Playdates and such can be awkward so you really have to want it.
I know one teacher really needs this as a single mom who can't afford after care, but with the others, you just have to wonder why?!
I don't know if they pay. I think they just get a waiver that needs to be approved.
