Mixing wood furniture (colors)
Most of out furniture is light wood b/c back in the day that seemed to be the "popular" option available. Now, darker wood seems to be way more common.
We hafta move my husbands desk out our 2nd bedroom b/c that is becoming the nursery. We hafta put the desk someplace else in the apartment, and I hate that the desk is dark wood and everything else is light wood.
Does this actually matter? Im actually considering buying a new desk in light wood just to make it match but I know its a silly expense when we have a perfectly good desk. Am I weird to care so much? lol

Personally it would not matter to me and I would not get rid of s good usable desk because of the wood color. I have furniture from multiple years and colors in all the rooms of my house but I'm frugal and it takes a lot for me to get rid of something. If the desk is real wood you could distress it a bit with paint to lighten it up. Or paint the other furniture a darker color if it is real wood.

WE have furniture in our house that does not match and it drives me insane so do not worry - you are not alone! I would keep the desk, however, if it was in good shape.

I actually have no issue with mixing wood tones. But what is like even more is color pieces mixed in. Would you be willing to sand and paint the desk as an awesome statement piece? Since you're considering getting rid of it anyway, I say give it a whole new look!

We have different woods in our LR and I love the look. I was concerned about it at first but it all came together and looks really good. Go for it.

Re: Mixing wood furniture (colors)
I think mixing wood tones can look more modern than everything being matchy/matchy. That's why a lot of people now do kitchen islands in a different wood than they use for the rest of the cabinets.
Personally, I think it's more important that the style "go" with the rest of the furniture in the room where you are putting it in than to have the wood tone be the same. So, for example, if it's a really basic clean line, minimalistic piece (like from Ikea), and the rest of the furniture in your living room is formal and ornate, it might look weird. But if they are similar style, a lighter wood piece mixed in with darker wood doesn't bother me.
I also like the idea of painting it as an accent piece!
