kitchen outlets

about how many outlets do you have (or would you ideally have) in your kitchen?

we are re-doing ours and need to figure that out

we are having an island so we will have outlets on each side, but trying to figure out how many to put along the counter/cabinets (and how to space them out)

Check the code. There needs to an outlet every X number of feet.

I would check the code but I would also see if you electrician is willing to put a few extra in. I always find that I don't have enough outlets where I need them in the kitchen. Especially when I am using the food processor, blender and mixer at the same time. Better to have more than not enough.

... and make sure there are enough circuits to handle the extra outlets. We have 3 pairs of outlets per circuit, and two circuits, so 6 total in the backsplash area. If you have all 6 on one circuit, and run the microwave, blender, toaster oven, etc at the same time, you'll blow the circuit.

Have you considered having outlet strips installed under the cabinets ? see if your electrician can do this.

it's awesome because they are out of sight, the backsplash looks so much nicer because you dont have outlets spots interrupting it & you have an outlet in every location.

The downside is that if you have a bunch of things plugged in all the time, you have all these cords hanging from the cabinets, which I personally don't like the look of. I can hide the outlets with appliances if I want, but I can't hide the cords.
Plus, if you have too many potential outlets, you run the risk of tripping circuits.

It's definitely a nice option to think about, but it depends on what look you are going for, and what your needs are.
