Not sure what to think

hi all,
I did my first IVF and transferred two AA embies and no pregnancy. The doc said "90% of the time its the embroyo's fault in not being chromosomally normal".

I dunno what to think. I have frozen embryos so I am going to roll right into an FET - if my ovaries are normal - will see on Monday.

I am terrified I am just going to keep failing. It feels like the IUI journey all over again (did 6). "maybe the next time". I have done immune testing. I had a d/c and lapro for endo and fibroids in April. I took baby aspirin and metformin for months leading up to this for 4g/4g mthr stuff.

I feel like I have uncovered every stone. Do I just keep going? I had a very successful stim cycle and my results (have 10 frozen) were "spectacular" as per Dr. Stelling....but what good is that if they won't stick?

Any thoughts, advice appreciated Chat Icon

Sorry you're going through this! Luckily you have no immune problems and you do have frozen embies! (That's more than I can say for myself!) it could be possible that embies you transferred were genetically abnormal but your frozen ones are good so hang in there!!! If this cycles fails my recc would be a new lab and PGD since you get blastocysts they will weed out the "bad ones". Good luck to you!!

Have you had thrombophilia testing done to check for blood clotting factors?
Sperm fragmentation ? (Different than sperm analysis. Fragmentation evaluates DNA integrity which can cause m/c or implantation failure)
Karyotype blood work on you and DH? (It's did then genetics - it looks for translocations which can lead to chromosomal abnormal embryos)

Did thrombo testing. Doc doesn't recommend PGD - said it wasn't necessary in my case.

What about the sperm frag and karyotyping?

When I had two chemicals it was helpful to see where the problem could lie - bc these have no symptoms - you'd never know anything was wrong.

Sometimes you'll never have an answer, but I preferred to exhaust all tests RE recommended to make sure it wasn't something correctable. Btw - it did turn out I have a clotting issue.

That's strange that he said 90% of the time it's due to the embryos being chromosomally abnormal but he doesn't recc PGD? If you have ten frozen there's gotta be one good one in there! I agree you should go for the other tests Michelle suggested. At least you can rule these things out.

With one failed IVF, I would not give up hope. Even "beautiful" embryos can have chromosomal abnormalities. Lots of women have not had success on a fresh cycle and then went on to have a successful FET. Good luck!!!

I got preg via FET. When the live cycle didn't work I was beyond devestated, but as ur Dr said sometimes it looks like the best embie, but ends up not good for implantation. Also during stimming ur body goes thru a huge shock w/meds and all the hormones pumping thru ur system. Not always the ideal environment.
What I'm trying to say is that not all is lost esp w/ a great # of frozen embies u got.

Re: Not sure what to think

We did PGD twice and I had perfect quality A embryos that were chromosomally abdnormal, and grade B that were normal. Had we not done PGD, the abnormal A's would have been transferred. You never know.

Thanks everyone. I read a lot of reassuring info online this morning about FET's working right after a fresh due to it being easier on the body, less cramping, etc. I was very bloated and had difficulty with the transfer, with cramping afterwards. What a long, crazy journey this is....I am not giving up hope. I am going to do FET and just keep praying for a different outcome. I will rediscuss the PGD again with doc - as they are already frozen on day 5 and 6, I think it makes PGD a little more complicated and I run risk of losing more. But will ask.

Yes you do run the risk of losing or hurting your frozen embryos by thawing them & having them testing & my dr felt it wasn't worth the risk even after 2 missed miscarriages from IVF & FET. Luckily my next FET resulted in my beautiful DD - definitely don't give up

Re: Not sure what to think

We tested previously frozen embryos (thaw, biopsy, re freeze). For us we felt the risk was worth it because I had many embryos and with the high cost of surrogacy we wanted to be darn sure we were doing all we could. The implantation rate drops after a double freeze, though the difference is not significant. My son however is from PGD from a fresh IVF cycle after switching offices.
