Obedience training

Has anyone's dog's behavior significantly improved by attending classes? We took
Casey to Petsmart as a puppy and I even had a trainer come to my house for several weeks about a year ago. That helped her with tricks (sitting, paw, lay down etc) but has NOT helped her with obedience. She does NOT listen to either of us, she constantly jumps on people, and now will not walk anywhere beyond the front sidewalk (she freezes and drags me back to the house). Oh and she will not ride in the car either, we have to crate her and put her in the back of the jeep. I feel very bad and kind of like a failure....we both LOVE animals and of course we got her to walk and take rides with us, etc but now she is so bad (behaviorally and emotionally) that we cannot enjoy anything and neither can she...I don't know what else to do besides maybe bringing her to obedience school. It's obvious that she is afraid of something outside but what, I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is 4th of July fireworks. I can't imagine not walking her for the next 10, 12 yrs of her life...and it is an issue when we have company over because she jumps and does not listen!! HELP! Chat Icon

Re: Obedience training

I'm sorry to hear that. Does your dog go in the backyard with no problem. Is it just the lead that she doesn't like.

I'm not sure. I have a pitt mix she is very stubborn and it takes a lot of yelling for her to listern sometimes expesically if she is excited. She's gotten better with age she's 2 1/2 now.

I've been considering some kind of obedience school because she doesn't always listern and it's a constent battle.

Re: Obedience training

The yard, she has NO problem with. Goes out there, races around, does her business...she is so weird.

I AM IN THE SAME BOAT. Petsmart was great at getting him to "laydown" but that was it! I don't know what else to do Chat Icon

Re: Obedience training

I do not have any affiliation with the following company - I swear!!!!
But, I have heard all kinds of great stuff about BarkBusters. I think you pay a flat fee and they train your dog, then if you have any problems they come back if you need them. If you do a search you should find something on them. I know I remember them getting good write ups.
I feel like a spokesperson cuz I just recommended them to someone else.Chat Icon
