Lowering Sugar in recipes?
I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners, but I'm looking for ways to reduce added sugar to recipes?
Is there a way?

I just use no more then half of what it calls for.
It usually turns out fine.

I usually just decrease the amount of sugar the recipe calls for- the majority of the time you cannot even tell.

Re: Lowering Sugar in recipes?
I usually do. I figured I'd ask if there is some other product I'm unaware of.

Re: Lowering Sugar in recipes?
Decrease recipe amount like others said. Also depending on what you are making you can substitute natural sugars with something like applesauce or maple syrup.

I use maple syrup or honey to replace sugar in recipes - usually works out great but definitely depends on what your making.

Re: Lowering Sugar in recipes?
I agree with using fruit as a natural sweetener versus adding sugar or artificial sweetener.
I've found that adding a banana or applesauce into oatmeal, for example, really works and I don't need any sugar. Smoothies, too.
You have to be careful with baking... sometimes applesauce or pureed prunes or something can work for sweetness, but sometimes sugar is needed for the proper texture/consistency of a baked good.
If it was a cooking recipe, where sugar is for flavor only, then you can probably just try adding less, as someone suggested. When cutting back, using a "richer" flavored form of sugar, such as brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, etc. may be more satisfying and require less than say plain granulated sugar.
