I need ideas ...
Does anyone have ideas on how to motivate a 3rd grade student who puts little to no effort into his work? A behavior chart really isn't appropriate for him beacuse he is not a behavior problem. Really he just does the bare minimum, if that.
I was thinking maybe a ticket system where the classroom teacher (I am his special ed teacher, but only see him 30 minutes a day)can give him tickets when he does his work and then he can earn prizes. But not sure what else? Any ideas?
TIA!

I teach third and I love Class Dojo. It's free. You can give points based on his work (I use it for my whole class) and give him prizes as he earns points. You can also subtract points for negative behaviors.

Re: I need ideas ...
I second class dojo! I love it. Anything that is on the computer motivates the students. If you have a tablet you can download the app on it and you and the other classroom teacher can use it.
I have it on my ipad, phone, my para has it on her phone, and we have it on our Smartboard. The children in my class aren't safe anywhere. lol
Try to find out what is motivating for him. Is it the computer, maybe those rainbow loom bracletes, pokemon cards, angry birds, ect. Have him earn for prizes.
Also, talk to him about goals and have him be a part of it. With a student like this I like to talk to them in the beginning of the day about random things. Maybe for two minutes or so. Children who lack motivation, sometimes just need a teacher who they WANT to work for. After you talk to the student go over your expectations for the day. If you are not able to do this, I have the other teacher try this or maybe a para.

Re: I need ideas ...
Thanks everyone. I should have mentioned that his classroom teacher already does class dojo. He needs something individualized.

You can individualize the class dojo for the one kid.

Does he have trouble remaining on task to do the work or is he just not motivated to do it?

Just not motivated.
Classroom Dojo, while I love it, is not a motivator for him.
