Anyone have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid or LG refrigerator?
We are in the market for a french-door refrigerator. I found a Whirlpool model that I really love. After seeing refrigerators I had some specific wants and this fridge meets them all. Problem is, I see some negative reviews for both the Whirlpool and KitchenAid (same company) fridges. People complain about the fridge being loud and sometimes needing several service calls for things like ice build up. Of course, I also see some great reviews. I really like this fridge but don't want to make a $2500 mistake.
I'm also curious about the LG french door models. A home appliance place I went to told me that LG and Samsung have horrible customer service and thus they don't recommend them. Does anyone have any personal experience with an LG fridge? (I have an LG washer/dryer and love them)

Re: Anyone have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid or LG refrigerator?
A family friend who is a big cook did her entire kitchen in KA appliances, had issues with the fridge, and exchanged it for a samsung french door model which she loves.
We are also in the market for a french door fridge (countertop depth, not sure if you are as well) and tentatively decided on GE Cafe but are also reconsidering KA and Electrolux. I have heard a lot of bad things about Electrolux though.
Have you looked at GE profile/GE cafe?

We looked into all 3, as well as Samsung & GE. We are replacing all of our kitchen appliances with GE, they had the best reviews over all and the best repair rates. Samsung has a history of not holding the temperature low enough, LG had issues, as well as the others. GE, while a little more expensive, really will likely be the best value because it will last. After we made the decision, we realized all the appliances we already had were GE and at LEAST 20+ years old, and all running great (we just wanted newer, more energy efficient, stainless steel, since we are doing a complete gut & reno).

We are also doing a gut remodel and have mainly 20+ year old GE appliances although I am not putting too much weight on that. I read in reviews that appliances these days are made to last 5-10 years max, not the 20++ years they were made to last in the past. That said, our current kitchen had ~ 20 year old GE electric wall ovens that died recently, a ~10 year old GE dishwasher that died recently, a GE fridge (not sure how old) that is still working great, a kitchen aid gas cooktop that is probably ~20 years and is working OK, etc. So at least old GE appliances seemed to fair pretty well

Re: Anyone have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid or LG refrigerator?
I've heard mixed things about GE. For years they actually weren't great at all and had many issues. However, they more recently took over their manufacturing again and updated a large new plant and are again making their own products so quality is expected to be better and so far things look good.
I just wasn't a fan of the freezer in the GE. The bottom freezer is 2 side by side drawers and then the basket. My parents freezer has that deep basket and things get lost and forgotten in there. The whirlpool has 3 drawers (good for trays of meat, veggies, boxes, etc) plus a shallower basket. So torn, don't know what to do.
ETA: The GE of 20 years ago isn't the GE of 5-10 years ago. Quality definitely suffered but like I said, they are investing in their manufacturing and products hoping for a turn-around.

Def! nothing is made like it used to be!!! We did a LOT of research on this (over the course of 2 years) and based on the reviews we've read, return rates, repair rates, etc, GE was the best of the lot across the board. LG was good in some appliances, but had high repairs on others, we really didn't read much good about some of the other appliances, Samsung had great reviews with their gas range, but their fridges have a lot of issues (not holding the colder temperatures, repairs, etc). In a perfect world, we would have just bought the best of each appliance, but that would have been a BIG issue for DH, he's a little ... odd ... when it comes to things matching.
On a side note, we love our LG washer and dryer, and there was some recall thing about a year ago (maybe less) and the repair guy came out and took care of everything.

We have a Whirlpool French door fridge and have had many issues with ice build up in the freezer. I come home to find a flood in front of the fridge. Had it serviced many times and still have the issue. Customer service basically told me to deal with it. I would never buy whirlpool again.

Re: Anyone have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid or LG refrigerator?
we have the LG french door fridge for about a year now. We love it... my only complaint is the water dispenser is kinda weird and company is always spilling water on the floor!
Also, we were having an issue with condensation between the doors that was dripping on the floor. LG came right away to look at it, he fixed it right there, no charge or anything. It was installed wrong by the store we purchased it from. Perfectly fine now!

My whole kitchen is 4 years old and done in KitchenAid Architect Series. I have the French door fridge and love it, not one issue with any of it.

This is what I was afraid of. Our stovetop, double oven and dishwasher is whirlpool and the reviews for those are great. The refrigerator seems to be the only one with problems. Will start seriously researching LG then.

Anyone have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid or LG refrigerator?
Avoid LG like the plague. I have an LG vacuum, it's actually a great product. A small part on it broke and made the entire thing unusable. Which, again, it's fine. It's a mechanical product built by humans and shit happens. I get that, I do.
The problem lay within their customer service and repair departments. I even went as far as executive services and never got a clear answer on anything, the departments don't communicate with each other very well. I tried their Facebook page and got a canned response that shows they didn't even bother to read what I said. They couldn't tell me anything about the repair/replacement/refund, and actually told me at one point that the vacuum was unrepairable and they were going to refund me, yet I got the vacuum back a week after that.
It is 2 1/2 years old and they've already stopped supporting parts to repair it, and I still have 2 1/2 years left on the warranty. And their FB page is filled with similar complaints.
I won't ever buy another LG product just because of the customer service issues.
The appliance person we had come fix the fridge in our basement recommended Whirlpool and Kenmore for fridges, said those are the ones he repairs the least and many have common parts that are easy to find and replace.

Re: Anyone have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid or LG refrigerator?
LG & Samsung are relatively new to large kitchen appliances, and they don't really have a track record to go by like GE. Also, LG's parts are manufactured in and shipped from Korea, so even simple repairs can take months! Seriously, google LG service issues and you will get tons of negative feedback, a lot of it coming direct from repairmen. Samsung refrigerators are hit or miss. Mine makes this horribly loud buzzing noise that just comes on out of nowhere, and you can hear it from the second floor. It's insane, makes me insane. Thank god we are moving in two weeks! I've had service on it twice and they said there's nothing they can do.

Anyone have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid or LG refrigerator?
My mom has an LG French door and has problem after problem with it, and problem after problem getting it serviced. Based upon that, definitely would not recommend LG.
Our Samsung French door is about seven years old and haven't had any service calls on it. Just recently we have an issue with the ice maker (won't work if we have the water filter in but works if we don't - very strange) but that is the only issue in seven years (of course, no more warranty for that).

Anyone have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid or LG refrigerator?
We had an LG French door fridge in our first house and loved it however to be completely honest we did not live in that house very long so I'd be curious to know how it functions now 7 years later.

I have Kenmore everything except for our fridge, which is Whirpool. We regret getting it because of the ice build up issue. I wish I researched more! I have a towel at the bottom of the fridge because it always leaks out onto the floor!

I just wrote the same exact thing! Very frustrating to have a nice new kitchen with a towel on the floor to catch the puddle!

Samsung all the way...we have 4 day an no issues. I found PC Richards (as much as i hate that store) to have the best price at the time but great warranty for the price as well.
