Cats and Fevers?
Has anyone had this happen to them?
I have a 7 and a half year old cat named Holden. Holden has been really healthy for the most part, but he's pretty much a scaredy cat. He has had a bit of stress in his life with three moves, the last being about a month ago.
On Wednesday, I woke up to him at my feet like always, but he was shaking. This was about 8.30 AM. He only shakes when there are loud noises or he is scared. There were no loud noises and there was no reason for him to be scared. I thought maybe he was cold, so I took him under the covers with me for a bit.
He then started to vomit. After he vomited he went into another room to be alone. I thought, OK he gets like this when he has hairballs; he has difficulty sometimes.
He was still not looking better at 10.30 AM. He went back on the bed at about this time and his breathing seemed labored and he was lethargic and restless. I thought something wasn't right, so I had to find a vet in my new location and arrived there at about 11.15.
Got to the vet and found out his temp was pretty high. The vet gave some shots for his stomach and an antibiotic. He told me to come back the next day.
Went back the next day and he got more antibiotics. The fever was down and his temp was almost normal. I asked where the infection could be, and the vet said he didn't know and cats get infections sometimes.
Is this true? I mean do cats just get sick and get better? I always thought that something like this is the sign of a bigger problem.
This happened with my other cat a few years ago, and she's fine. I do suspect she had a problem with the food we were giving her, though. But I've never had this happen with other cats in my life.
BTW, he's doing pretty well now, but it was so scary seeing all this happen in the span of a few hours.

I don't have experience with this either. Could Holden have made himself sick with a fever by being stressed ?
Poor kitty, hope he is doing better.

Re: Cats and Fevers?
He's actually much better and back to his old self.
I just think a cat getting sick like humans do is kind of strange. He isn't an outdoor cat at all.
I'm glad he's back to normal and thanks for all your thoughts!

Thought just crossed my mind : spring allergies maybe ?
But glad to hear that he is feeling and doing better.

Hmm I wonder. I need to keep an eye on him. Could be a reason. I know my allergies are awful now!
