Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

I recently discovered that all of the women on my father's side have been diagnosed with this. From what I've researched so far, it can impact fertility, but nothing is mention about what exactly is inhabits. Can someone explain to me in layman's terms what exactly Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is and what the impact it has on fertility?

And aren't you tested for this during the initial blood workup before you begin treatment? All I was told when I started back in 2012, was that my thyroid level was a 5.8 and I was immediately put on synthroid. Nothing was mentioned about any autoimmune diseases and I jumped right into a clomid cycle.

I can't explain what that is...however, I can tell you that we tested for any autoimmune diseases right in the beginning.
