My DH did this for both our living room and basement TVs, I have no idea how he figured it out, but both work outstanding.

I think he set it up so that we look up slightly but don't strain... My brother helped, it's entirely possible that one would hold it while the other checked placement.

Eye level in the living room. I don't like having to look up. Some may think it's low but I think it's perfect. Many popular AV blogs also say eye level from the spot you watch from.

For the bedroom it's higher because when laying down you are looking up at an angle. So technically that angle is eye level as well.

this exactly
we actually paid someone to do it for us (they hid the wires for the tv and surround sound) and this is what they suggested. both the bedroom and living room are perfect heights

here is some info:

When DH built our fireplace, he hung it centered above the mantle, a bit above eye level.

DH hangs a lot of TV for work. He's a contractor. As others said about eye level or what you're comfortable with and where you'll be hanging it. Could depend on your entertainment center, if you have a fireplace, etc.
How we figured it out... When DS1 was 3 years old we had him stand against the wall and put his hand up where he can reach to. We went slightly above that. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I used paper to make a template the dimensions of the tv and tested it out until we figured out how big exactly we wanted and where to place it.
