Termite baiting system?

When we bought our house there was some termite activity--the previous owner had terminix treat and repair any damage. Terminix is charging $379 per year for a baiting system--my mom says that she thinks that is unesccesary and DH sparying a few times a year would be sufficent...any insight on this?

Re: Termite baiting system?

I am not experienced in this, so someone please correct me if I am wrong. I am in the same situation as OP. I am a new homeowner, I have baiting stations around the house, and termite company charges something around $300-$400 a year for maintaining the stations. According to my research, if there are no termites, monitoring internal station cartridges last 12 months (there are two types of them inside of each station). All you need to do is to insert two types of cartridges inside each station and monitor the situation every three months. If there are termites present then you replace monitoring cartridges with more expensive poisoning cartridges. I just paid $125 for 50 monitoring cartridges of both types (25 each type, so full set for 25 baiting stations). The tool to open station costs $25 or you can wrestle with a screwdriver. I understand that if there is a termite activity or you suspect something more serious you can call the pros, but just monitoring seems to be possible DYI? Again, please correct me if I am wrong…

Re: Termite baiting system?

I don't think its sprayable. They are in the ground.

I didn't know you could buy the tool and cartridges though!! Thanks!!

We have sentricon. There was a swarm, but they couldn't find any damage. We pay $350/yr for refill. The guy told us that after 2 yrs you really don't need to refill them b/c the property is covered.

Re: Termite baiting system?

Online for example. I am not sure if I can post links here, so just google "DIY pest control" and first of non-sponsored links has them. I just looked into two stores. There are probably more than that... You can also google "termite baiting stations cartridges". Then read some sort of manual (that is what I found) to understand how it works. First to attract them, and if they are around you want to poison them (this is a bit more tricky I believe as you need to be careful not to disturb them, but as I said at this point you can call pro if you want...).
