AC Question with poll
Would you rather have in the wall AC units or window units in your bedrooms? We currently have in wall units but with upcoming renovations now would be the time to make the change.
CAC and ductless systems are not an option right now
Thanks!

Re: AC Question with poll
I would rather have window units bc then you don't have to worry about siding, insulation, etc if you ever do install CAC.
My BIL had wall units and they recently converted to CAC and now they have big holes in their house to fill. They are keeping the units in but they no longer use them. When they do siding on the house, they plan yo remove them then and gave the holes patched.

AC Question with poll
I would choose a wall unit - that way you have the option to open the windows on "cooler" summer nights or if you just want to let fresh air in

Re: AC Question with poll
i've had both, and while the wall option was great, i felt it was drafty no matter what I did. so I voted window.

Re: AC Question with poll
We like the window units. We have ceiling fans in all of our bedrooms and kitchen and they really help. The back of our house is always cool too so we can get away without AC for the most part.
DH usually waits until the first unbearable heat wave to put them in.

AC Question with poll
I vote window. I can still have the windows open if I don't want to use ac, because I don't have a unit in every window-only 2 on the first floor (we don't really use our second). Also, I hate the look of Jen a it's nice to be able to take them out in the winter-we only keep them in from around June-sept

Re: AC Question with poll
It depends...
I'd prefer wall units if you don't think you will ever do CAC.
If CAC is in the future, definitely stick to window units. Otherwise, you'll have to fill in the wall and siding when you close up the holes.

AC Question with poll
We have window units and have no plans to install CAC. Every room that has an AC has at least one other window, so we can open a window for fresh air if we want to.
I was not thrilled about cutting a hole in the wall of the house. I think no matter how good of a job they do initially, the potential for water leaks is too high a price for me to do wall units. Also, when the wall unit goes and you get a new one, you have to try to fit a new unit into that sized opening.
Our window units don't ever come out - they are screwed into the frame of the window with supports but I like that I can take them out easily at any time.

AC Question with poll
Our home had wall units which we promptly removed and patched. I can tell you it was a pain to match the siding on the house and we spent at least $300-500 for patching the two walls.
We now have ductless and are very happy. We plan to dormer upstairs and since the dimensions of the rooms will change, we are opting for window ACs for the summer. Ductless or CAC are not an option now but could they be in the near future? If so I would do windows for sure and patch the walls now since you're doing renovations.
