Installing a well for sprinklers

Has anyone done this? I live in North Wantagh and the water bills are insane...not to mention the water pressure is horrible. My sprinkler guy was just here and he was talking me into installing a well. he said my electric bill would only go up about $15 a month but the well itself (about $2000) would pay for itself in 3-4 years. he said i'd be able to add more heads since the water pressure would be great and it will water the lawn in half the time.

the house has one of the old wells in the basement but he said not to use it cause it's old and the metal gets rusty.

anyone have experience with this?

I would get a second opinion- that seems like a made up story to get you to spend $2K

I wouldn't spend my money to water the lawn more when it rains every other day now

Our house has a well for the sprinkler system, but I know nothing about it other than that.

How much is your water bill per month? In Suffolk, our water bills are super cheap. Like $10 per month, give or take. There's no way we could recoup $15/month in electricity by saving on water.

nassau water is A LOT more than suffolk. my normal bill is $30-40 every 2 months...off season. this guy was telling me during the summer it could be $500 a month.

Sorry that is total BS. There is no way your water bill will ever be $500/mo.

ITA. Even if it doubles, you're topping out at $20/month for water. That means that you're only saving $5/month (Saving $20/month, but spending $15/month for electric) for a few months a year, while you're watering. A savings of $25/year (May-Sept) is going to take about 80 years to recoup your costs.

Some of these numbers seem a bit off.

I'm in in Wantagh. Water bills for me run between 65-80 every two months, off season and go higher in the summer, but I don't water my lawn much, nor have in ground sprinklers. So basically 40-60 a month in the summer.

$2000 seems high. However it also depends on what it includes.

From talking to a few people in my area, if there isn't a filter on the system, the water will stain your siding and everything else. And good filter set ups aren't all that cheap, also replacing the filters costs $$ too.

I think you should talk to neighbors on similar properties with sprinklers and find out what the water bills in the summer are like, and/or go through it yourself. Then decide. Get a few quotes if you're still interested. I don't think $500 a month is going to happen unless you have a terrible leak.

Installing a well for sprinklers

There was a well hooked up to the sprinklers in the house we bought. But I know nothing about it and don't know how to make it work. So we had it disconnected and the sprinklers hooked back into the main supply. There was a $30/quarter difference in our bill (suffolk cty).

Do you have American Water? If so its not a scam the bills in the summer get extremely high. I stopped watering my lawn last year because the bills were close to $200 every other month.

Installing a well for sprinklers

my water bill was $600 for 6 months one year. this was because: 1) they hadnt been billing me for 2-3 years (except service charge) 2) my sprinklers were leaking a little, not too bad 3) my pool was leaking to the point where i had to run a hose to it every 3 days for a couple hours, for 2 seasons.

i dont think this guy is telling you the truth!
