Real wood furniture?

So we need to furnish our den, entryway and dining room as we've just finished 9 months of massive renovations.

On the dining room furniture in particular - we really want to get decent quality - real wood furniture.

Of the many local furniture stores - where would you suggest starting? I find that I fall in love with a look, then read closer and find it's not real wood. Chat Icon

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Real wood furniture?

I have a beautiful solid cherry table that DH got from a thrift store when he lived with roommates. They each paid $25 (table was $100) and it came with 6 chairs, 2 leaves, and pads. It's in amazing condition. So, I would say to check a thrift shop or garage sales. As far as stores, SO MANY stores don't sell real wood anymore :( I searched high and low for a solid wood crib and furniture for DS - and it was so expensive! I would look into gothic cabinet- they make real wood furniture. Good luck!

There is a girl I follow on Facebook Called Painted Treasures by Chealsea. She is from Plainview and paints furniture and the stuff is beautiful!!! You should look there too.

As far as stores, raymour and flanigan is good. Not sure if it's all 100% real wood.

Ethan Allen. All my furniture is from there and it's all real wood. 11 years later and every single thing is like brand new.

Real wood furniture?

I have a table and chairs from World Market. It is def on the more casual side but I spruced it up with fabric head chairs.

We use our dining table everyday so I went for a more casual look.

Opposite experience here.

Spent 10k on a dining room set.

It just arrived this week. There is a chip out of the table, the finish on the table was done incorrectly (parts were rough and not sanded down), and the china cabinet had a defective door and door handles that we're not hung evenly.

In my opinion you DONT get what you pay for. I will never again order from them - and I suggest you look elsewhere.

Are they rectifying it? My entire furnishings are pretty much from there (and some PB). I can't say I had any issues with anything other than a lamp I bought from there.

Re: Real wood furniture?

I had a similar issue to justbeachy's but with Thomasville. Ordered a dining table, chairs, and buffet.

Get them delivered to discover the buffet has a PRESSBOARD back. And it's noticeable b/c it's up against my stairway wall and you can see it through the spindles.

It was up against a wall in store so I didn't notice and honestly - I wouldn't even had thought to look.

You're probably better off going to an actual woodworker and having your furniture custom made.

a pressboard back is very common even with solid wood furniture.

I wouldn't hold this against a store if this was the only issue.

and with any place issues happen. I would be more concerned if they did not take care of a issue
