This isn't the first time this has happened. Order something online to be delivered, got a delivery confirmation, NO THANK YOU OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. so f annoying. Have to text to ASK if they got it.

very.very.annoying. not the first time this has happened, with different parents. I honestly feel like not giving gifts for babies anymore unless it's a party.

eta: got a reply that they got it.

NO 'THANKS' OR ANYTHING.

I get that with children's gifts as well....makes me laugh because I was taught to write a thank you card, which to this day I still do...I'll be happy with a text or email from the child if they are old enough...Chat Icon

Re: vent: baby gifts, no thank yous

Thank you notes seem to be a thing of the past.
DH and I went to 4 weddings last year and only received one thank you note, and even that TY had nothing personalized written on it.
Told DH I am done with going to weddings. If I am not going to get a TY, I would rather it be for a small check than for a big one.

My own niece and nephew don't send TY cards or even call to say thank you. I blame my sister for that. We were raised to write TY notes.

I agree, it does seem a thing of the past, but how about ACKNOWLEDGING a gift? Are people so entitled? I think not, hence no more gifts.

What did it take to text back 'yep got it, THANKS'???

Re: vent: baby gifts, no thank yous

Sorry for crashing but I definitely think thank yous are a thing of the past. I made my 6 yr old DS write out all of his thank yous for his bday party this year. He complained every stitch of the way and asked why he was doing it if he thanked them in school for the gift. I told him if he wants to have parties and for people give him presents then he has to write the thank yous because it's the right thing to do otherwise he will not have parties anymore. He got it. My sisters kids that are old enough to write them out do. My husband's sister's kids on the other hand do not and I think it's disgusting.

Maybe out of the 15 parties he went to this year with his class, he got three thank you cards all written by the parents. My little one, who went to three parties through day care got zero thank yous, I think it's disgusting.

I totally agree with this. My sister and I do not speak, but I send her kids gifts. The 4 year old I can excuse, but I recently (in May) sent a bday gift for my 17 year old and 10 year old nephew and got no thank you. The 17 year old emailed me last year because I live overseas. I got nothing this year. It would be nice to get a handwritten thank you, but I think it's too expensive to send overseas I guess.

Or am I completely justified here?

Listen i dont begrudge people for not writing a formal thank you, but a call/text i think is fine! My gift wasnt given at a party, which i consider different.

I just find it crude, especially if i have to ask you if you got it.

It's not that expensive to send one regular letter to Germany!

That's something they would need help with though, and if you & your sister aren't on good terms, I could see that not happening.

They should at least email you though.

My cousins always sent thank your cards for their birthday gifts, but for Christmas we always just thank in person.
One year when I couldn't make it, I left gifts with my mom & got a text from one & a FB message from the other the same night, which I thought was sweet. I feel like when they communicate in that way, it is of their own initiative.

ETA-- I don't like buying baby gifts. It's very difficult for me. So, if I went to all that effort & put my own feelings aside, I would be hurt if I didn't get a thank you.

My Godson's mom is very busy & awful with thank yous--she fully acknowledges this (it took her forever with her wedding thanks yous), but for gifts, she will take a cell phone pic of with him with the gift & text it to me right away which I love.

sorry, I do not accept emails or text as a thank you. A thank you like that is an after thought. I grew sending thank you notes and strongly believe that's the way it should be. IF I take the time to buy a gift with hard earned money, a small card is not that time consuming. TOO many parents don't teach their kids instead they write it for them. My cousin sends notes for all gifts I send her kids, the 2 yr old she wrote but the 5 and 7 year old wrote it. Its always a beautiful surprise.

I card/note means more because it means they took the time to buy, write and mail

I totally disagree. No difference between an email and written note. A thank you is a thank you. Snail mail is antiquated.

I agree...e-mails are fine. Sure, a card in the mail is sweet but it's going to get tossed anyway.

Just curious, if you "don't accept emails or texts as a thank you", what is your response when you get one?

How old is the baby? It took me about 3-4 weeks to get myself organized to write thank you letters after having my DS. I do, however, agree that the gift should be acknowledged.

I'm old school and send thank yous ASAP because I really, truly appreciate people thinking of our family and send them..I also like using paper because I think it's a nice thought back and I get to write a nice message..

I agree with Divabridle. But I did stated earlier.

When I send someone a card they are always surprised how good it feels to receive one. Some do think sending mail is antiquated, I disagree. MY opinion!! I think texting and emailing makes people very disconnected to each other and feelings.

My friends or family would never send me a text thanking me for a gift I gave them, a phone call yes but not a text.

I will read an email sent to me, but it wouldn't mean much. But my friends would never send an email for a gift either
