placentophagia
placentophagia—the eating of any or all of the components of the afterbirth.
I have been reading up on this and apparently it is something that stars like January Jones has done. She made it into pill form to eat it. Many who have done it claimed that it helped curb their postnatal depression.
What are your thoughts on it? Have you done it? Did you you notice a difference? Would you do it?

I haven't done it but have friends who had their placentas encapsulated to help ward off PPD and other postpartum issues. It really has a lot of benefits and if you swallow it in pill form, it really doesn't sound so bad.

Re: placentophagia
I encapsulated my placenta.
Did it help with PPD? I can't say for sure - I do know that I felt mostly great after I had my son - I was not hormonal or erratic or emotional or depressed at all. And I have struggled with depression for most of my life.
I also had a great recovery - I had a quick labor so I am sure that helped as well.
It certainly didn't hurt anything and I plan to do it again.

Re: placentophagia
I did it with my DD. I had horrible PPD with my first child and not even a tinge with my DD with the encapsulation. I had a failed Vbac attempt with my DD I healed faster, my milk was plentiful, I highly recommend it. I am even certified to encapsulate for people. It really is that big of a deal to ingest. It is ground up into a powder and put into caps like any vitamin. You wouldn't know the difference in taking a placenta pill over any other herb.
