What do you think...

I just got a call from RMA that this will be my last covered IUI. If I want to continue with IUI it will be out of pocket, or we can move to IVF. My doctor wants to change my meds from clomid to letrozole. Now I’m thinking we should go all out for the last one. I have two friends who did letrozole, follistim, ovidrel and IUI 36 hours later and both got pregnant. Our only known issue is MF. We had 21 million sperm for the last IUI, which was double the amount of the previous two. Any thoughts?

I was also with RMA. These were my medicated cycles
Clomid
Clomid iui
Letrozole iui
Injections iui
Injections iui
Ivf
Ivf...resulted in dd

How many iuis have you done? I moved onto Ivf after 4 iuis, two with injections, bc if it would have worked it would have in that time.

I've done 3 and about to start #4, which will be my last covered. I could see what the letrozole does for me and then possibly do a 5th iui with injections and pay out of pocket before moving to iui.

I would definitely do an injectable IUI for your last one. For me, IUI didn't work but there is a higher chance of it working with injects than Clomid. I did 6 IUIs- any questions, just ask. GL

I would skip the letrozole and go straight to injections.

I'd do injectables for your last IUI.

Thanks everyone!! Doctor said no to injectables for iui, he doesn't like using them with iui. I'll see what letrozole does for us this month and I'm meeting with SIRM on the 21st for a 2nd opinion and possible switch.

If you only have coverage for one more IUI, I would be vocal that I wanted to use injectables. Who's your doctor at RMA? At least 3 of the woman on this thread used RMA and used injectables.

Ummmm, what?!?! I did injectables after two iuis at RMA. It was actually at their advice. Are you not in the NYC practice?

I see Dr. Flisser and I was very vocal about adding injectables expecially since this is my last covered IUI. He came back with a NO. The nurse I spoke to was a little short with me saying that they knew what was best for me and what worked for others might not work for me. While I understand that, I don't know why they wouldn't want to add injectables so we (hopefully) wouldn't have to go to IVF.

How many follicles are you producing on clomid?

Ok now it makes sense. My dr was dr Mukherjee. Chat Icon I remember on my first injectables cycle with iui I had a crazy amount of follies, like 10. Dr flisser was there during my monitoring and he gave me the whole selective reduction talk, which I wasn't prepared for and should have been told about before starting the cycle. Anyway, that cycle didn't even get me preg with 1 let alone multiples. But he seemed very apprehensive and could see him playing it safe with injectables.

What about if you start with injectables and have a crazy amount of follies convert to Ivf? That's what they wanted me to do.

Thank you for this! You must have been heartbroken with 10 follies and a bfn!!!

That’s what he’s worried about that I’ll have too many. He didn’t say anything about turning that iui into an ivf though. If this iui doesn’t work we’re going to ivf. I'm meeting with him on the 7th and SIRM on the 21st. I want to make sure I have the right doctor.

I was. I really thought that would be it. Especially after the multiples talk.

Change your meeting on the 7th to Mukherjee. He's my fav there and I saw them all.

I called about meeting with Mukherjee. They told me I have to change physicians, they don't do 2nd opinions for the same office. I'm waiting for a call back and see what happens. Not sure there's much he can do this cycle but I'll be better prepared for next month (hopefully there isn't a next month).
