Q about once your LO is in EI
Once your LO is receiving services via EI, is there a certain point where he/she is "re-evaluated" so to speak? Or does this only take place once they are transitioning out of EI and into the school district (CPSE?) The only reason I ask is because my DS is turning 2 in August and I was wondering if they evaluate them at certain "age points" - mostly because I guess I need to know whether or not I should save days off for this or not! (My work vacation calendar runs from Sept- August). TIA!

DS has been in EI since he was 19 months and only now that he is "aging out" he went though evaluations again. Prior to this, he was not required to undergo the evaluation process after the inital one.

DD was reevaluated every 6 months. If you check your child's IFSP it should have an end date. If your have an ongoing coordinator that slacks off like mine does you need to pay attention and remind them and the therapists to actually do the evaluation. You should also have a meeting with the county at that point if they qualify to continue to go over a new IFSP and any changes to their services. You're also supposed to get a 3 months progress report however I never got one of those!

Re: Q about once your LO is in EI
Ei does initial eval and if approved an IFSP is written up stating goals and objectives. IFSP run for 6 months. His therapist will do another eval with standardized tests at 6 months. your coordinator will set up a meeting with you to discuss results and plan for next IFSP period. Approximately 6 months before his 3rd birthday you have to register him with your school district and they will do another full eval to determine if he qualifies through CPSE. That will usually require you to take time off between meetings with district and evaluations. Depending on when you start the cpse transition will depend on how he will be evaluated. If you do it close to the EI review the district might use some of those results but will still be required to meet with your DS.
Nassau county stopped requiring 3 month reports they just do 6 months now.
