we finally went for ivf consult. the doctor said we have about a 30-35% chance of success due to age and endometriosis. Insurance won't cover it- as badly as we want this just seems like a huge investment for such poor odds. any thoughts?

I would do it. Not sure how old you are but that is higher odds than if you kept trying naturally. This way at least you can say you tried it all and not have the regret of wishing you tried it. Those odds are still good IMO

I would do it and be as aggressive as possible. I wouldn't wanna look back and think what if I did it...

Is there something you can do for your endometreosis before the IVF? Since you are paying OOP do any and all tests prior to IVF so you know what the best protocol will be.

Best of luck!

That is the chance for a single cycle/transfer? I think I read somewhere that like 80 percent of couples are successful with 3 cycles. Instead of paying $13k for 1 cycle, It might be worth it to look into a shared risk program like the one at north shore where I think you get 3 fresh and 3 frozen for 20k or something like that. I'm not 100 percent sure about these figures but maybe someone btdt can clarify.

Plus you may get a bunch of frozen embryos from a single cycle, so even if that first transfer has only a 30 percent chance, you may be lucky enough to attempt subsequent FETs.

I was given a 5% chance due to my low amh and rising FSH. Unfortunately it didn't work, but I had to try at least once. No way I was doing it again though. Too expensive. If I had insurance or unlimited funds, I would have tried once more.

I'm glad we did it. It helped a lot with closing that chapter of my life.

If you can swing it, do it. 30-35% is really good odds.

I have endo and did IVF twice with both cycles failing. For us, with the endo and low amh, my chances were very slim. If you have confirmed endo, I would suggest you try to have a consult with an endo specialist who can do a laparoscopy to remove any active lesions. The lesions cause an inflammatory reaction that can inhibit implantation and pregnancy. They also can cause scar tissue that forms in the uterus, preventing implantation.
You will have a better chance clearing the lesions and starting off with a low inflammatory level before starting the IVF.

I would definitely try. They never told is our odds, but I am pretty sure they were not great. Three cycles later and we have a 2 month old DS.
