Introduction

Hey ladies! My name is Erica and I am 28 years old. My husbands name is Nick and he is 29 years old. We have one son named Jason who is a year and a half! Heres my TTC journey from then till now.

We started TTC for our 1st in June of 2011. I was on birth control for years before and stopped it a few months before trying. After a chemical pregnancy in December, my cycles started to become very irregular ranging from 31-45 days. I was temping at the time and realized that some of the longer months that I wasnt ovulating at all. Had a sono and bloodwork at my OB and they said I had PCOS and should see a fertility specialist. We made our consult appt in June 2012 and the day after our appt we found out that I was pregnant already! Needless to say we were ecstatic considering it was a year later and it happened naturally. Pregnancy was fine, no complications and gave birth to our baby boy Feb 14,2013. I went on birth control for one month but it made me a lunatic so we decided that I wasn't going to take them and we would just see what happened.

Now I knew deep down that it would take a while to get pregnant again and we wanted to have our children close so I started trying in June 2013. The good thing was my cycles were more in the normal range anywhere from 27-32 days now. After about 6 months we decided it was time for a consult with the fertility specialist. We went to the same place again, RS of NY and saw Dr. Halfen and occasionally Dr. Stelling. I had hubby tested and count and motility were good but morphology was 2% which he said was on the low side.

Heres what we've done so far:

Cycle 1- 100 mg clomid, 3 mature follicles, trigger shot, BFN

Cycle 2- 100 mg clomid, 2 mature follicles, trigger shot, BFN

Cycle 3- 100 mg clomid, 2 mature follicles, trigger shot, IUI, BFP but ended in a chemical pregnancy

Cycle 4- 100 mg clomid, 1 mature follicle , trigger shot, IUI, BFN

Cycle 5- 100 mg clomid, 2 mature follicles, trigger shot, estrogen (for thin lining), BFN

Cycle 6- took a cycle off from the dr to clear my head, 30 day cycle, BFN

Cycle 7- femara 5 mg, 1 mature follicle, trigger shot, IUI, BFN

So that brings us to today actually. So I decided that I liked RS of NY but I felt like we did the same treatment too many times and I need a new prospective. I also didn't like how on cycle 7 he was going to prescribe me clomid again until I said why don't we try femara since the clomid thinned out my lining and he said oh good idea! Seriously you're the doctor! I shouldnt tell you what the next step should be!

So me and hubby are going to Dr. Joseph Pena of Long Island IVF on Thursday for a consult! That will be day 3 so I'm really hoping we can get right onto that cycle and not have to wait a cycle since it is so early in this cycle anyway!

Is there something that I'm missing? Is there anything weird about the protocol or is there more the doctors should be doing? Thanks ladies for reading my story! Any input would be great!

If I were you I would not take clomid anymore. Try femera or injectables. Has DH seen a urologist? How are his numbers post wash?
What testing have you had?
I'm a success story from Li Ivf but not with Pena. Good luck !

Yeah I def don't want to take clomid again that's why I suggested femara! DH has not seen a urologist yet bc they said his numbers were fine. Post wash his #s were usually 15-20 million. I really haven't had any testing which I think they def shouldve done an HSG and when I brought it up once the doctor told me I already had a successful pregnancy so I dont need to have it done which seems weird to me also.
Congrats on your success from LI IVF! I'm excited to start fresh with someone and get a new prospective!

Get him to a urologist ASAP!!! They sent my DH to one - his count is 90 million and 3 or 4% morphology and low motility (50 something%).
You should get hsg, water Sono, genetic testing, clotting testing.
Was your progesterone level monitored after the iui?
I too have PCOS. Just to put it in perspective - I did 3 clomid cycles, 3 clomid iui, 4 injectable iui (of which three were bfp, but two were losses).
Gonal injections worked great for me, as did prog injections and lovenox injections (for clotting issue they found).

Thanks for the response Michelle! See this is why I'm going to another RE bc I feel like RS of NY didn't do like any testing on me considering you just named 4 things that they've never done!!! Grrr that makes me so mad bc I feel like I'm knowledgable in some aspects but then feel dumb in others lol. My progesterone was monitored one month after clomid and IUI and it was 23 at 8 dpiui. I think the next step has to be to get some tests done and move onto injectables I think! RS of NY hasn't even brought up the PCOS this time around and they're calling it secondary infertility.

Technically it is secondary if because you have a child already, but they def dropped the ball!
Make a urologist appt Tom! DH saw Sarah Girardi who specializes in IF. Maybe nothing can be done but that's something I would want checked out. Nothing could be done for my DH but we felt better having a dr check him out. We also did DNA fragmentation testing on his sperm after my two chemical miscarriages.

I always had one follie on clomid, and went up to 8 on Gonal. Gonal has a discount card in case you are oop in Li Ivf office. For PCOS, Gonal was the much better choice for me.

Li Ivf won't proceed without at least an hsg test and genetics. They were my second clinic as well and were 1000% times better. DH had better post wash sperm numbers at their lab, too. They got his motility up to 98% from the 50's.

Glad you made the switch!
