Breastfeeding Classes
Did anyone take one at Katz Women's Hospital or any other location for that matter? Did you find it beneficial or is it mostly the same stuff that's mentioned in the books? Does anyone know if Katz offers any classes during the day once you have baby that you can attend during your stay (I know some hospitals offer this)? TIA

Re: Breastfeeding Classes
I took the one in LIJ for DS and loved it. I actually used the positioning that they taught and was able to BF my DS for longer than expected. I found it very helpful but then again, I learn better visually with demonstrations and hands on. Some just go for BF books and are good with that.

Yes. I took the North shore-LIJ one. It was great. Very beneficial. Yes they offer weekly breastfeeding sessions for you to bring the baby.

Breastfeeding Classes
I took the class when I was pregnant with dd and didn't find it very helpful. IMO holding a doll is not the same as holding a baby and getting them to latch Katz in new Hyde park has lactation consultants that come by while you are in the hospital (and if they don't get to you day one you can ask for them). I found the one on one more valuable then the class. And she I delivered Ds last month they came around asking if I wanted to go to a free class.

I did not take a class, but I am pretty sure it would not have helped. My DS was a maniac while nursing in the beginning - even the lactation consultant commented on what an aggressive nurser he was. No doll could have prepared me for nursing him. I think one of your best bets is to request to see a LC when you are in the hospital. Have them watch you nurse in a variety of positions to check the latch. Proper latch is imperative. I found football hold to be the easiest.

Breastfeeding Classes
I took one at NSUH - came free with the purchase of Lamaze class. DH and I found it beneficial. The instructor also went over the first few hours of the baby's life and importance of skin-to-skin.

Re: Breastfeeding Classes
I took it at Stony Brook. I didn't think it was all that informative. I didn't really learn anything I didn't already know from reading on here or online. IMO, you don't know how it'll all really go down until you are actually trying to BF your baby.

I didn't take a class, but I did look up latch techniques on my own which I found to be helpful.
