How do you cope with MS at work?

Any tips and tricks are appreciated.

What should I expect?

I feel great so far but I am only 5 weeks. I have some big meetings coming up in the next few weeks and already have anxiety over potentially being sick.

Re: How do you cope with MS at work?

Ugh.... keep your fingers crossed, there's hope! I'm about 10 weeks now and am really struggling. I try to stay busy, keep to myself when I need to. I have had a couple of out of office things and have kept myself armed with crackers and ginger lozenges. Luckily when I've actually vomited it has been in the evening. I am nauseous all day long though. And exhausted.... just beyond exhausted. But remember, some people don't have it at all - so plan for the worst and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised!

And congrats!Chat Icon

How do you cope with MS at work?

Having a small desk fan helped me. When I would start to feel like I was going to vomit, I put the fan up to my face and would breathe in and out very slowly. It helped more often than not.

Re: How do you cope with MS at work?

I had my MS from weeks 6-8.5 and I would keep mints on hand, eat bland things frequently like bananas and applesauce and wear sea bands. For me, they helped to eat meals but I know they do not work for everyone. I was given zofran and diclegis in case I was sick on heavy patient days but never needed it thankfully.

How do you cope with MS at work?

I had MS from weeks 6 - 16. It wasn't bad at work, I only got sick once, and it was because I (a) didn't eat when I was hungry and (b) overate once I got my food. Best advice is to get seabands and wear them. Also, eat a lot - constantly eat, keep cereal or crackers at your desk, it will definitely help.

good luck & congrats!

This is actually very good advice to not let yourself get too hungry and then stuff your face. Twice out at a restaurant this happened to me and I was STARVING, took two big bites and then had to run to the bathroom lol.. So weird but I learned my lesson and eat more frequently.

Keep snacks and gum on hand! I'm still battling MS (almost 15 weeks) at random points at work, but I just run to the bathroom. I have noticed that eating every hour and a half/2 hours helps a lot. If I start getting nauseous and can't get to a bathroom, I try the gum.

I was lucky. But the time I went back to work, I was on Zofran. Honestly, without that I don't know how I would have been able to function at work. Before the Zofran, I was in the bathroom with 24/7 morning sickness.

I am on diclegis, it has helped but I still get nauseous at night and in the morning. I have crackers with me, pregnancy pops and lemon drops. I have gotten sick when I got to work even on diclegis, but luckily when I threw up no one was in the bathroom. Good luck I am at 11 weeks and can't wait for MS to get better.

How do you cope with MS at work?

I lived on jolly ranchers or lifesavers. The sweet candy really helped me fight the nausea! And fresh air was good too. I teach in a trailer, so I could step outside if I was feeling really terrible!
