Out of town family question

For those of you whose parent's or in laws live out of town how did you figure out when everyone should fly/drive in so they could be present when the baby is born? I am a FTM and baby is due October 13th. I know I can go early or even way past my due date. My mom lives in Florida and I really want her to be here day of. She's thinking of flying in Oct 6th but I worry that I might go before that. Does anyone know if airlines offer open date tickets? Or what other options I may have? Thanks!

My MIL will not be flying in, she just moved back to Hong Kong, and I don't think my father will be able to either (he's living in California and I'm due the beginning of December). For these family members, they'll end up seeing baby when they come back ... My father has my brother's wedding in February, so I'm assuming that's when he'll be meeting our LO, and MIL, it will probably be Skype all the way for a good long while.

I would ask your mom what she is comfortable with. Is she able to spend an extended period of time up here, because that's probably what it would end up being. I'm sure she'll have no problem finding flights relatively last minute from Florida up to NY, so I would wait it out a little more and see how you are progressing as it gets closer.

My parents are in FL.

You can plan all you want but it will probably not work out.

My Sis was PG and due 7 weeks before me. So their plan was up in the air and then she was scheduled for a c section so they came up the day before for that. Stayed for a week and then planned on being back up in mid January for me. My water broke 3 weeks early and my parents did not make it here for the birth. They jumped in the car the next day and were here 2 days later.

I called my mom on the way to the hospital. She wound up hopping on the next flight on Southwest and she was here before the baby was born. I'm in DC and she's in NY so it's a pretty quick flight.
