This story is breaking my heart. I read about it on FB yesterday.

I just read this heartbreaking update from Lost and Found Pets of LI: Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It is with such great sadness that we report that missing dog Yuri, who was swept into floodwaters at Southard Pond, yesterday, 8-13-14, has been found deceased. His body was discovered this morning off Carll's River south of Montauk Highway. Words cannot express our deepest sympathy or the heartache we feel at Yuri's loss, and we are certain that the thousands of you that responded to his lost post on LAFPOLI, join us in sending condolences to his family, who searched for him until morning light.

Yuri's story touched the hearts of so many here on Long Island, as Facebook reported to us that almost 60,000 people viewed his LAFPOLI post within hours. At a time like this, for the family, the support, the positive thoughts and the true concern and help is absolutely overwhelming and immeasurable. It means so much to know that there are concerning people that truly care and wish to help. Whether you actually went on site to search for Yuri, shared his post, commented to send positive thoughts, the power of our community coming together to show support restores faith in humanity for all.
Once again, our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to his owners John and Kristen, his family members, (3) other fur-sibling and to all those who loved Yuri, (including those of us who did in an instance, who never even met him until just yesterday). We are so very sorry. Rest in peace sweet Yuri and run free at the Rainbow Bridge.

OMG. So heartbreaking, but glad they can put his body to rest. So tragic. I can't believe this could happen here on LI.

Me too! :(

Too bad they went out to that pond on such a terrible weather day :( I probably would have instinctively jumped in after mine!! Probably a nutty thing to do but, I do not think I could have watched my dog go like that! Just so sad-he was beautiful. I wonder how his other 3 fur siblings are doing too :( What a terrible sight to witness for the poor dog owners.
