Had my third monitoring scan this morning. Still only have 5 follies. The doctor said since we're self pay, we could consider converting the cycle to IUI, but if we want to stick with IVF, she doubts another cycle would be any better. Plus, since I've been on stims for so long (today will be the 10th day of stims), my progesterone may have started to rise. In that case, even if we get any embryos, we'd have to freeze them. I give up

I'm supposed to take the stims again tonight and then go for another scan tomorrow. She didn't come out and say we should cancel the cycle, but I got the sense she's prepping us for more disappointment. She said a few times that the

Does she have any idea as to why you didn't produce many follies? How many did you get last time?

I wonder if there is a different protocol if you were to cancel and do it again, if you would get better results.

I'm so sorry. I been there. My first IVF I only had 5 mature eggs. I wish I would have canceled. I regret it to this day bc I thought we could have done better and we did get more in future IVFs. Why does she think you aren't producing a lot of follicles? I would ask if you were to convert to IUI what would be done differently for your next IVF.

Thanks, P. Chat Icon

Last time, we got 8 eggs, but only 5 were mature. 4 fertilized, but only 1 made it to transfer. We weren't able to do the biopsy, but they think the pregnancy failed due to a chromosomal abnormality.

This time was a completely different protocol to try to boost our chances. I had DH email one of the other doctors in the practice to see what he suggests. I don't love the dr we saw this morning, so I want to see what the other one says. I don't want to throw good money after bad if it's a list cause, but I don't want to make a rash decision, either.

I'm sorry if I don't know your history but I just rejoined this board recently. Is this your first IVF cycle? What stims are you on?

Ignore my first question did not read your previous post.

I didn't ask about why they think I didn't respond better. I'm 38, have high FSH and low AMH, so I just assumed it had to do with that. She said she doesn't think another round would yield better results. Based on last time and this round so far, she thinks this is about as good as it'll get. She mentioned that donor eggs may be a better option, but if we want to use my eggs basically we can just take our chances this time.

This is my 2nd IVF. I'm on 2 vials of Menopur, 300 units of Gonal F and 20 units of human growth hormone. I started ganirelix a few nights ago.

My RE told me the same thing after my 3rd IVF (1st was cancelled, 2nd resulted in my DD, 3rd was a chemical). I was my own best advocate. I did tons of research and had him adjust my protocol for our final attempt. It yielded the best results I'd ever had. I produced more than double the eggs, fertilization was triple that of previous cycles, and we were even able to freeze embryos. I'm due next week.

I was 39 at the time of that last cycle. My AMH was .24. FM me if you want to talk.

I converted a fresh IVF to a frozen one. My estrogen and progesterone went too high and my lining wasn't in sync. After the thaw we only had three viable embryos....now I have twins.

In the interest of full disclosure, we were also self pay and it was our last cycle.

May I ask what you changed with your protocol for that cycle?

I'm just concerned with having so few follies, that if we wind up having to freeze that we'll lose the embryos in the freeze/thaw process.

This is almost definitely our last cycle. It's just too expensive without insurance.

Just heard back from one of the other doctors in the practice (the one who came up with this protocol0. He said that he'll do my ultrasound tomorrow, since he would be the one doing my retrieval. As far as IUI vs. IVF, he said that he does not think that there is any better or alternative ovarian stim regimen that would give us any better result. So, unless we're planning to save the money to put towards an egg donor, he'd recommend going forward with the retrieval and hoping for a decent number of eggs and embryo development. Translation: it's a crap shoot, so just keep your fingers crossed. Luckily, I have wine in the fridge cause I'm gonna need it.

Thanks for all of your comments and well wishes. They are much appreciated.

I read the thread so I hope don't mind. I am in my early 40's and found out my FSH is 28 this week. My transfer last week was ca because nothing survived the thaw. I was told with a high FSH stimming wont work. I don't take supplements only co-q 10. just wondering what you did if your FSH was high
