Duodenal Atresia/ Double Bubble

Hi everyone,

I just found out during my 36 week sono that the baby has Duodenal Atresia. I'm really scared not so much because the baby will need surgery once he is born but because Duodenal Atresia is commonly found in babies with Down Syndrome. I feel like in one week my world was turned upside down. All along my pregnancy has seemed perfect and everything appeared perfect. The doctors say my risk of Down syndrome or chromosomal abnormalities is extremely low but I cant help but to freak out that I could be that "1" in 20,000. I've read both positive and negative outcomes but there are a lot of stories of people who tested negative for everything, had perfect sonos and gave birth to a child to Down Syndrome to their surprise. Please know I am not saying there is anything wrong with a baby with Down Syndrome. They are beautiful and perfect in their own way just like every child is. I just feel I have not prepared myself for this possibility and of course am hoping for my baby to not have this. Does anyone have any experience having a baby with this? I meet with the pediatric surgeon tomorrow but as of right now I don't know what to expect. How long will my baby be in NICU? How is everyone's babies doing now? This disorder is pretty rare... it occurs in 1/10,000 births. I'm trying to be positive but of course Im worried and this is my first baby.
Anything you could share would be helpful. Thank you

No experience, just sending prayers your way.Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm sure it's really tough to take this in after 36 weeks thinking everything is fine, but at least you do have a few more weeks to get prepared and informed. I would try not to google too much and see what the doctor has to say when you meet with them. Just focus on getting ready for the baby's arrival and surrounding yourself with a great support team to help you through whatever you and the baby need once the baby's here.Chat Icon
