Tile
In the begining stages of a kitchen renovation and I'm starting to look at tile. Given my taste seems to be expensive, I had a friend mention that people do pretty well buying tile online. Any experience doing this?
Also, need a full compliment of kitchen appliances as well as a new washer and dryer? My contractor gets a gets a discount at PC Richard, can I do better elsewhere considering his discount?

Tile
Personally, I wouldn't do tile online. I think that seeing a picture of the tile doesn't really tell you what it looks like.
I got my kitchen tile from Procida tile in deer park and it wasn't too bad in price around $3-4 psf. For our bathrooms we did home depot and lowes and got cheaper tile, some special order, some not.
I've been to "the tile shop" in westbury, they have nice stuff, but it is pricey.
we've had good luck buying appliances at Jays appliances in Levittown, all I can suggest is don't buy a Frigidaire, they're terrible

We just wrapped up a massive kitchen remodel. In my experience, I would only consider buying tile online if its tile you found and have seen in person first. We didnt pull the trigger on our tile until our granite was installed because I wanted to see it in the space. I did look online as well but it didnt really seem much cheaper and it was nice to have a local store to deal with.
As far as appliances, we ended up ordering from Plessers. We have bought appliances from PC Richards in the past and got what we considered to be very good prices, but when I stopped in to get a quote on the appliances we were considering at the time they were significantly higher than a quote we had gotten elsewhere. I asked if they could beat that price and the SA made a huge stink about checking and how I had to come back to the store in person to get pricing and eventually was able to match the other prices. Plessers beat the best price we were able to get AND threw in a 5 year comprehensive warranty. They also had certain hard-to-find pieces on display that even appliance world didnt have.
Happy to chat more, just message me

Re: Tile
I picked my tile at a store
2 I picked were ridiculous - I ended up finding them on line for much less
I ordered from builders direct.com
they will send you a sample
the tile I got was much nicer quality then the store for half the price
I got all my appliances from plessers- they destroyed PC Richards price
