Best places for an occasion dress
I have an upcoming wedding for a close friend and I'm in the market for a new dress. I hit Smithaven mall today and was exhausted just from getting dressed and undressed and walking around the mall. I went to White House Black Market but they didn't have much. I tried bebe, cache, and Macy's. I'm looking for a knee length fitted (or slightly fitted) dress that sucks you in. (Not flimsy material that shows every bump). Where can I go? I'm willing to get a good night's sleep and head out on Thursday or Friday since I'm off. I'm willing to spend $200.

I'd go to Roosevelt Field and try the department stores. They usually have larger selections there. I have done will at Bloomingdales. I've also gotten nice dresses at Cache but you said you already tried there.

It's hit or miss like the others, but I have also found stuff believe it or not at Dress Barn.
I just took a chance and ordered something online from ther because I hate dress shopping too, and know I can just return it to the store if it's not what I like.
I also usually can find something at Macy's but dread going to the one by me because the mall is such a ghost town.
Some of the ladies on here also recommended Rent the Runway.

I was in the same situation. I did Rent the Runway last summer. You can get two dresses or two sizes of the same dress sent to you. Google coupon codes. I ended up with a very expensive dress for $40 bucks.

Thanks ladies! I think I'll head to Roosevelt Field Mall tomorrow. I will definitely look into Rent the Runway also!

Me too, I've had good luck at dress barn a few times in the past 2-3 yrs. I find that their dresses are pretty well made too, for the price.
