Frozen Meals?

I'm planning on freezing meals so I don't have to worry about cooking once baby boy arrives.... but I'm torn, do I freeze zip-lock baggies with the uncooked but prepped foods so I can just throw it all in the crock-pot... OR do I cook and then freeze?

Frozen Meals?

I'm not big on most crockpot meals and haven't found any of those freezer dump ones that I've liked. I always cook and then freeze. I thaw overnight in the fridge and then microwave so we have dinner in minutes and no cleanup. It was a lifesaver when DD was a newborn and I've been getting a lot into the freezer in the last few weeks for this time around. I do have a foodsaver so everything stays perfectly fresh but I think freezer bags should work well too.

You can do either (or both).

I'm lazy so I prefer crockpot freezer meals (toss all uncooked ingredients into a bag & freeze), but to each their own.

I think it depends on the meal. I feel like some foods may be better left uncooked while some may be better cooked and defrosted. I would def cook some, only because I know I personally get bored of meals in the slow cooker...

Agreed. Also nice to have some heat and ready to eat meals prepared for those days when you don't think about dinner early enough to get that crock pot going. Everyone has those oh crap where did the time go days. I always have some frozen cooked dinners on hand for those days, even without kids.

I preferred to freeze already cooked meals--chili, chicken cutlets, baked ziti, beef & broccoli. That way you only need a few mins for reheating.

How do you freeze the chicken cutlets? Do you put in a ziplock and put wax paper between?

I have a food saver. I got it for a wedding shower gift. One of the best things I own. It keeps frozen food really well. I do put wax paper between chicken cutlets.

You probably should--I don't and end up having to chisel them apart Chat Icon

do both some things just dont tatse as good heated up a second time. we do freezer meals now and the crock pot. also i would try to meal plan for the first month and have it set aside with a premade shopping list so after you have the baby its already done. plus meals for a week or 2 and you will be golden. if you are going to breastfeed you will be eating and snacking often so keep that in mind
