over 50 people have read but not one answer.
I asked if anyone used a lawyer or agency, and why did you pick one over the other.
if you are single how long did it take to adopt

Clearly, not an active board....I'm not on frequently but can let you know that we are in the process now and went private through a lawyer opposed than agency . Our reason primarily were because our lawyer was highly Recommended from someone we knew that had great and quick success. There were other reasons we were not comfortable going to an agency but personal references speak volumes to me.
We just got certified so I can't tell you much about the timing....hopefully soon! :)
Good luck!

Re: wow not a single response
yes... this board is not very active... I'm an adoptive mom myself, and i always forget that its here to check it. We adopted--- but internationally. our son was born in Korea. so obviously, we had to use an agency. we used Holt International. They are a very big agency- based in Oregon, with "satellite" offices in different cities across the US. They have been around since the 50's, and are kind of the original international adoption agency. We liked using an agency because of the after-adoption support they can provide. our agency has a camp every summer that the adopted kids can go to when they get older to meet and talk to other adoptees. They do free "webinars" that adoptive parents can watch online about different adoption issues. Our local office of Holt has a picnic every year for adoptive families in NJ (where we live) and we go and I've met a few good friends through that. so I really like that they didn't just help us with the legal and paperwork side of it.... they're there to help with stuff that might come up as my son gets older, too.

Would you mind recommending your lawyer and social worker? I'm "shopping" around as well.....
to the OP, try the bump adoption boards they are looked at much more often than this one.
