I need some advice or suggestions. My mother in law is turning 70 soon and before I became pregnant we had decided we wanted to take her to the vineyards for the weekend. We will stay at a B&B. I am not ready to come out to anyone in my family or DH's family yet what do I do at the vineyards? how do I decline wine? I am not looking forward to this.

Re: stuck
It could be really tricky but I had the same thing happen when we first found out and we were at a very small wedding with my in laws. I thought it was going to be very obvious but my mil had no clue. I ordered drinks and would act like I was sipping them and DH would finish them when no one was looking. I also filled an old wine bottle with grape cranberry juice and drank that in a wine glass at a home party and hid the bottle and just would refill when no one was looking. A winery could be tricky but maybe if you let the person behind the bar know ahead of time, you could figure something out? That stinks but try to have fun and don't stress it!

Can you say you're on antibiotics or something and can't mix it with alcohol?

That never works, lol. That's like a dead giveaway that you're pregnant. I would just order a drink and pretend to drink it. Try to have DH take sips when no one is looking. That's a tough situation. Good luck!!

Go to the bathroom a lot and dump your wine?
How far along are you? Can you possibly just tell your immediate family?

Re: stuck
I just found out I was pregnant this week. I haven't even had my first appt yet. I would have it the week of the event but my parents will be out of town and I don't think it's right to tell my parents before inlaws. It's a very difficult situation I know

Re: stuck
I don't really think it's a big deal.
To me, I have no problem telling family I got a BFP even before I've been to the dr. But if you're not comfortable with that, just say you're on meds and can't drink. Let them think what they want to think. They'll find out in a few weeks why you didn't drink. If you aren't that close with them, then they probably won't have the nerve to call you out on it, and even if they do, who cares. It's your prerogative to tell them when you're comfortable.

Re: stuck
get there early and tell the person serving alcohol that your preggers and they will give you grape juice and just pretend its wine. I did this a couple weeks ago with my friends.. I told the waitor I was preggo and I was gonna order a stolio and soda but instead of the stolio she just gave me seltzer.. they had no clue!!!

I used to do this all the time when pregnant. I hid it for 6 months in a job where we were ALWAYS out at the bars, restaurants, etc. I would get there early and make friends with the bartender. He'd then hook me up all night long with seltzer with a lime and call it vodka/sodas. I joked that the bartenders knew I was pregnant before anyone else!

Re: stuck
privately ask the waiter for grape juice either white or purple. Buy the wine by the glass not the bottle.
or say your on a special detox diet and can consume certain foods/drinks

Pretend to take sips, then have DH finish your glass when no one is looking, or dump it in the bathroom. I have done this (not at a winery but at other events involving alcohol the last time I was pregnant) and the people we were with were none the wiser.... actually one person knew I was pregnant & beforehand told me to give it up, everyone would notice I wasn't drinking... well she was wrong & she couldn't believe nobody noticed! If you act natural nobody will think anything of it because nobody is actually paying that close attention to you, but if you act nervous it will be obvious.

This. People most likely arent paying as close attention as you think, and if they see you drinking or ordering an alcoholic drink they typically file it away in their self conscious and then dont think twice about it. Tip off one employee, fake drink a little, and then relax. I had a work happy hour before I was ready to come out and ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail at the bar when I first got there, told my colleagues I had to leave early so I ordered my drink at the bar rather than wait for the waitress, and nobody knew better. I even got to order "another one of the same" at the table without blowing my cover. I was just hoping the check (which someone else picked up) wasnt too blatant.

Have DH drink your wine. Pretend you are drinking it and then switch glasses when he is done. I have done it. I was very good at fake drinking. If you order something people don't pay too much attention. If you say you aren't drinking then people get suspicious. Good luck.
