Not gamier and I used to get my turkeys from a local farm but like you think they are too expensive. I get the non frozen turkeys at a regular market and brine it and most importantly not to overcook it.

Just don't get a heritage breed turkey if you don't want a gamier taste. My family prefers the dark meat so we get the heritage breed. Its expensive but they all like it!

Should I ask the farm what breed their turkeys are?

Yeeesssssss! We get from a farm in kings park. It's amazing.

And as a side note, big store brand turkeys are really abused. They cut offtheir top beak so when they eat they shovel more food in their mouth which fattens them faster.

Would you mind telling which farm and about how expensive? I am debating ordering a fresh turkey but can't afford to spend $100+.

Just wanted to follow up for anyone who's interested. I called Raleigh's Poultry Farm in Kings Park. Their turkeys are just over $4 per lb. we are going to order one. I can't wait to taste it and see if its better than our usual frozen supermarket bird!
