Talk to me about Zofran

I'm prego with baby #2. I'm 8.5 weeks. My nausea and vomiting has been really bad this time around. I'm nausious all day long and then throwing up at night before bed. I'm practically useless during the day, which isn't really an option with a 2.5 year old running around. I caved today and talked to my fertility md about it and I very reluctantly got an rx for zofran. I'm not quite sure what my hang up is about taking this med, but, whatever it is, I don't like this idea. But I also know I need to be able to function. So I guess I'm just looking for some support.
Also, if you've taken it, how did you space it out? It says 1 every 8 hours so I was thinking one in the morning and another around dinner time? Any side effects?

i also do not like to take any rx while pregnant. i have 2 other children that needed me to get them ready in the morning and feed them at night shower, hw and bedtime. if i was really bad in the morning i took one if i could get away with just eating crackers and drinking water then i did that and saved the pill for before they came home so i was functioning for late afternoon. i tryed not to take more than one a day. does your 2.5 nap at all?

Is it 8mg? I tried just taking one every 24 hours. Sometimes I only made it 18 hours and sometimes 30 hours. Did u get the orally disintegrating one? That one worked best for me. I took it with both pregnancies, my dd is perfectly fine! This one I'm 22 weeks and everything looked perfect at my anatomy scan. Try not to worry about it and let yourself feel better!

Re: Talk to me about Zofran

I get exactly what you're saying since when they prescribed Zofran for me, I was thinking I was going to be a tough guy and not take it. This is my first child and I was in the hospital at 6 weeks from throwing up for a week straight, not being able to keep anything down. I gave in and took the orally disintegrating tabs and they worked wonders. I still threw up but I was able to function at work and felt better than before Zofran. So far, at 24 weeks, everything looks great. I was on them from 6 weeks-18/19 weeks. I would try to take one a day but if at night I got worse I'd take another. As I got towards 18 weeks, I would try to not take them on days I felt good but then found the next day was way worse. Luckily I started to feel better and didn't need them past 19 weeks but I know someone who needed it her entire pregnancy and has a healthy little guy! Do what you need to do! My Dr. Told me that if I was so sick and becoming dehydrated than I was of no use to my baby so it kind of put it into prospective.

I toughed it out with my first had the rx but never took it. I threw up at least 3 times a day until about 14 weeks. With my second I had no choice I threw up 4-5 times a day and had a 2.5 year old to take care of. I literally could not get off the couch. I always took half of the 8mg pill in the morning and that helped, if I was dying by 4 I would take the other half. I tried to always just take half a day. I had to do this until about 15 weeks when my ms started going away. My ds was born perfectly healthy, so I would take it if you need it!

I took it with my DS. I only took it as needed. Mostly to be able to ride the train in/out of the city without having to throw up in bags.

Thank you so much ladies. I have the 4mg tablet. I'm trying not to take it if I don't have to but at the same time, I don't want my DS to suffer because mommy is too sick to play. It's hard because I also work full time from home so I'm just totally drained. I did take one last night and I didn't throw up or even get too nauseous as I normally would have. However, I did wake up at 3am with bad stomach pains and ended up needing to go to the bathroom (sorry for TMI). I don't know if this was a coincidence or a side effect. This was a good 8.5 hours after I originally took it

That's one thing I forgot to mention-while taking the Zofran I definitely suffered from constipation. After stopping the Zofran, I definitely went back to "normal" feel better!!

Re: Talk to me about Zofran

I was on 4mg my entire pregnancy. Especially at the beginning, I could not keep anything down. I Solent the summer on the couch. It was a godsend.mi don't think I would've been able to function without it.

Re: Talk to me about Zofran

I took Zofran for the majority of my first pregnancy. I didn't really have a choice. I was useless and couldn't get myself out of bed or off the couch. I had all day ms and couldn't keep anything down. At about 8 weeks I ended up in the ER because I hadn't been able to keep any food or water down for 3 days and was severely dehydrated. I took it twice a day (literally after 8 hours it wore off and I went right back to throwing up) every day until I was about 20 weeks. It didn't totally take the ms away, but it made it bearable enough that I could keep food down and function like a human being. It was a Godsent.
