Advice needed re: kitten/cat behavior, please help!

So Fritz is 7 months old today Chat Icon (still a kitten I think??). He is so sweet and patient with DD, cuddly and affectionate, etc. He is also insane.

He is OBSESSED with water - faucets to be exact. He jumps on the counter and puts his head under the faucet. If it's off, he'll lick it Chat Icon We consistently remove him from the counter and give him a firm "NO" but he jumps right back up. Same thing with the bathroom sink.

Sometimes my DD gets upset if I say NO to him, too - she'll say "mommy don't yell at fritzy" Chat Icon

What else can I do??? Has anyone used this product or know anyone who has? Water Fountain

Obviously he also does this while we're not home and while we sleep. So removing him from the situation is not really effective since he'll just do it when we're not around.

Also, he jumps up on to everything imaginable. Our armoire, dressers, tables, counters, the refrigerator, a shelf that's 7 feet high.... and knocks things off. I am TERRIFIED of what's going to happen when we get a christmas tree in a few weeks!

If anyone has any advice to offer I'd really appreciate it. My previous (female) cat was NOTHING like this! We love him so much and just want to work on these behaviors.
Thank you!!!

Although he loves playing with water, does he like having water sprayed on him?

Mudd is SUCH a ba$tard sometimes and I give him a squirt from a spritz bottle. He's obsessed with the counter, the sink, the bathroom sink, the stove (he's a freak). He likes playing with water but hates being spritzed with it so that's my go-to for when he's being really bad.

Our other two cats don't behave like that at all.

The water fountain is cool but if he's obsessed with water he may play with it and splash water all over. It's not awful...just another thing to deal with that may distract him from the counters/sinks.

Is he neutered yet? Sometimes that calms them down. Didn't work for Mudd but he's a beast of epic proportions.

I've heard mixed things about using a spray bottle.... and no, he does not like being spritzed with water (I did flick water at him once expecting him to dance in it but he ran away).

Yes he was neutered a little over a month ago.... Chat Icon

Re: Advice needed re: kitten/cat behavior, please help!

My SIL uses the fountain for her cats and loves it.. but it depends on the personality of the cats as my cats would just play in it!

I used Sticky Paws Tape when my girls were kittens to help avoid jumping on counters etc..

I'm pretty lucky - one of my cats was raised with my puppy and thinks she's a dog, and doesn't jump up on stuff much. My other cat would jump up on the counters and eat from plates in the sink - I was terrified she'd walk on the stove when it was hot.

Between the Sticky Tape and the water bottle, she stays off my kitchen counters!

Has the kitten been tested for diabetes ? Rule it out then you know he's just water obsessed.
My boy drank only from the bathroom faucet. Made. Rushing ones teeth difficult.
My girl drinks water from anywhere but her own bowl. Flowerpots, an unattended drinking glass, the humidifier when I take the tank out, shower drain. I keep a bowl on the living room windowsill for her. She hates the spray bottle. She's not diabetic, just a little nuts and 10 years old.

Thanks ladies. Yes Susibee he has been checked for everything (both when we first brought him in because he was born to a feral, and before he was neutered).

I read online that cats hate citrus smells so I got a bunch of stuff and lo and behold.... doesn't phase him!!!!

LOL, you've got a nutty one. Try crumpled aluminum foil - get the cheap stuff. Lay it down where he likes to walk. They don't like the feel or noise of it.

With Bella, sometimes shaking the spray bottle is enough to get her to stop doing something bad. She really doesn't jump up on places, might walk across my dining room table or walk under the blinds (real noisy).
She understands GET DOWN and also LEAVE IT, rather than just saying NO, but will usually do it with a complaint or two.

The nuttiest thing she does is rub her face on EVERYTHING. She has no whiskers - keeps rubbing them off, and no fur on her chin. There is nothing wrong with her except being a nut.

Oh, and tearing azz thru the house like her tail is on fire. Not a big deal except when she does it at 3am.
