"8s" v. "10"s

what is the difference between an 8 and a 10? I know that depending on the composition of the class that year the answer could vary but I am generally wondering where is the best placement for my 3 year old child. I am just wondering if "8s" are generally comprised of non verbal children? Thanks! And pardon my ignorance. My son is minimally verbal but not nonverbal. His diagnosis is cp and we think the speech delay is at least partly motoric (low face tone) My concern is him being placed in a non verbal class sine I would really like him to have some peers to model. Also he is currently home with his two very verbal triplet brothers so to take him from that to a nonverbal room, I feel, would not help his speech development. I was told he would either be placed on an 8 or a 10. And I have no idea what that really means,aside from class size and teacher ratio. Thanks!

How did it work out? I'm not sure if every school is the same. Right now my son is in an 8 and is the most verbal child in the class, but his behavior issues are keeping him from being moved to a 10. In an 8 they get more one on one attention for their issues and they do discrete trials. In a 10 I believe they have to be more independent and work in groups. It all depends on the behavioral and learning needs of the child. And yes, every year each class makeup will be different.

It really depends on the school and the way the classes are leveled. I've seen 8's that were verbal and some non verbal.

If your son has CP, he may be placed in a class with children who have similar needs (more motor delays) than developmental delays. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses! We decided to go with an 8, and the director promised he would be in a verbal room. My sons CP is atypical in the sense that while it's mild, it's really only one piece of a global developmental delay. We want to start him off with as much support as possible.
