I hate when a special date falls on a Monday!
I feel like whining a bit...
Our wedding anniversary this year is on a Monday and I am kind of bummed about it. I hate going to restaurants on Mondays. You KNOW whatever you a re eating is NOT going to be fresh... I also really like seafood but no way would I have order it on a Monday!
Basically, the only thing one can do to have an enjoyable meal is to go to a really upscale place that gets deliveries every day, but which will cost a lot of money... or just go wherever, cross your fingers and hope for the best...
I know, totally first world problem... but the thing is, we don't go out very often and I always look forward to out anniversary as one of those special evenings...
Wah, wah, wah....

I would also "change" the date of the anniversary. a day or two before or a day or two after wouldn't make a difference to me. We've def. done it before.

I agree with PP. Go the weekend before or after.

Just go a different day. Do something special and low key at home on Monday.

I know that feeling
You could always go out the weekend before and pick up some awesome, rich dessert and a bottle of wine or Champagne for Monday at home.

I hate when a special date falls on a Monday!
We never go out on our actual anniversary, vday, or anything like that. Our first date was supposed to be on vday but there was a terrible ice storm and we had to reschedule. Ever since then it's been tradition that we go out the week after vday when we have time, it's less crowded, and we're off for presidents week.

I hate when a special date falls on a Monday!
Am I the only one who doesn't know the "Monday isn't fresh" rule for restaurants ? never heard or thought of that!
Can u go weekend before?

I'm with you. And I eat out a lot. I do know that Monday is an annoying day because a lot of restaurants are closed. Tons actually on Long Island. But the ones I have gone to on a Monday , I have never seen ANY difference in the quality or freshness of the food. But maybe I'm just barbaric.

I was thinking the same thing! Never had a problem on a Monday, just a lot of restaurants are closed! I have had fish too with no problem!

Anthony Bourdain swears Monday is a terrible day to eat a restaurant. And like the PP stated, especially for seafood- it's usually 4 to 5 days old at that point. They usually serve you all older stuff. So even if you didn't have a problem with your food and it tasted good-- think about how much better it would have tasted fresher!!

Re: I hate when a special date falls on a Monday!
If any special day falls during the week we always go out on the weekend before or after, weekdays just don't work for a nice dinner out, is there a reason that is a problem to do

There is a nice restaurant near my job. I go.a lot for work lunches. They happen to be open Monday. I have had the fish on Monday and again on a Friday. Like I said I go often, am pretty much a regular. I see no difference in the freshness from Monday to Friday or any other day for that matter. I doubt they are serving old food.

I have literally never heard of this before either...I too must be barbaric!
If it really bothers you though, I would just go out the weekend before.

Re: I hate when a special date falls on a Monday!
Nothing wrong with celebrating two days earlier.
On your actual Anniversary, you can always order food in if you feel you want to still celebrate the actual day and also not having to cook.
Just think in 4 years; you can finally enjoy the restaurant of your dreams!

Re: I hate when a special date falls on a Monday!
See, this is why sometimes it's very beneficial to randomly complain here about a topic that bothers you: you might just get some great advice! Thank you, guys!!
The more I think about it, the better going out the weekend before sounds!
And to those who didn't know about the Monday rule: I am glad I was able to enlighten! Its really an important thing to keep in mind!
See, again, totally random unimportant post and yet it benefited people, including the original poster!

Generally places do not get meat or seafood deliveries on Sun or Monday. My cousin used to deliver meat. That is why I will never ear sushi on a monday.
Even supermarkets have limited deliveries on Sun and Mon

I'm working on our anniversary night so we will celebrate 2 days before. I had no idea that restaurants do not serve fresh food on Mondays..,,
