Q. about valentines day in class

I think who cares. Maybe the mom is busy and doesn't have time to sit with him to make sure they are correct, doesn't have the supplies, etc. They are just Valentine's. I always send them, but who cares if some kids don't.

isnt it the thought that counts? Unless there is some sort of written school policy that you must bring a valentine to receive one why does it matter?

Q. about valentines day in class

I wouldn't worry about someone else's child. The lesson we all try to teach is that it is better to give than receive. If his parents do not teach him that then that is their problem. I would never exclude a child because they do not participate because then you are sending the wrong message to your child, that you only give to get something in return. And also, just because she is a stay at home mom doesn't mean she has all the time in the world, you have no idea what goes on in another person's household.

Re: Q. about valentines day in class

Maybe he is just saying he doesn't want to participate because his mom doesn't bother and he gets embarrassed by it. Does it really bother you that your child didn't receive anything from him????? WOW.

Re: Q. about valentines day in class

I would try not to read too much into it. Maybe there is an issue that you have no idea about that leads him to not "want" to give Valentine's to his classmates. I'm a teacher and I've found over the years that there can be major issues going on in a family that I would have no idea about if the parents or kids don't share and it can affect so many aspects of a child's life in ways we don't expect.

Re: Point Missed

The OP deleted the post, but I can guess this is about a child not bringing in Valentine's for the class.

This has always been my son. He has ALWAYS said that he does NOT want to bring in Valentines. It makes him extremely uncomfortable. I made him do it in kindergarten, and ever since then, he has made the decision on his own not to participate. Has he gotten Valentines? Yes of course. I was also a SAHM at the time and could I have "forced" him to? Sure. But I let him make the decision on his own. He is in 4th grade now and still refuses to participate in sending out Valentines.

Never occurred to me that there were moms out there keeping track though Chat Icon

Don't concern yourself with things that don't concern you. You'll be much happier.

I hear a lot of assuming going on.. you don't KNOW that she has the supplies, or the time, or more importantly if her child doesn't WANT to do it. You said " him ", when my son hit a certain age he didn't want to make valentines either. My DD LOVES that kind of stuff and my DS doesn't. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I will force my kids to write out thank you cards for birthday gifts, but not to make valentines day cards if they don't want to. Stop keeping track it's really petty.

Re: Point Missed

I think everyone got your point. Stop keeping track of who is giving out class valentines day cards and goodies. It is petty. You have no idea what is going on behind someone else's doors. Whether they work full time, part time, or stay at home, it does not matter. You look petty.
