Forgetting stuff at school
DS is only in kindergarten. Today he forgot his folder. I am not running to the early learning center to get his folder so he can do his homework. I emailed the teacher. Also, someone could've taken it as well because he took someone's home by mistake once.
At what age do you run to the school when they forget a book for homework?
I remember in middle school having my mom take me to the school to get a text book I needed for homework or a test. Ugh! Don't want to have to start doing that in a few years.

I did it a few times in 4th and 5th grade. By that time, the teachers hold the students more responsible for missed work and will actually deduct points or mark it as a missed hw and it reflects in their grade. Now in middle school, if he forgets his binder I definitely run and get it as it means a missed homework in all his classes.

Re: Forgetting stuff at school
I only ever picked up the folders and stuff when they were in the younger grades. By 3rd grade, I expect them to remember.

I agree. DD is in 4th and if she forgets a book by the time i get there its too late anyway since she is in afterschool
What i cant stand anymore is she forgets her lunchbag still!!!

Re: Forgetting stuff at school
For me never! That's there job. By us 1st and 2nd grade homework doesn't count in there grades. 3rd grade it is 30% of there grade and it district wide. I have friends who run back but the teachers low if the kids go back to the class room and I think they are limited how many times. The only think I have done is asked for spelling words from friends if they forget their spelling notebook.

Thanks. You know M is only in Kindergarten now. Because we were out last week (well, really 3 days bc of the snow) I didn't want to add more HW for him to make up. A friend of mine who's DS is in the same class scanned the two pages of HW and sent it to me so he was able to do it. I'll have to keep at him so he remembers. This was the 1st time he did it and had a week off so not really disappointed in him for that. Plus it's only K.

Re: Forgetting stuff at school
DS is in 4th and I still do it They have planners to know what hw they have, words for spelling tests, etc, but the class has a website where you can find the same info (words), so no problem on that area; but every 2 weeks they have to do a Reading Response based on a book from certain subject, and I like DS to start working on that a week in advance. Then, that's when he forgets to bring the book because he doesn't see the urgency on it. That's when I run to the school to get it, so he can do it. He needs a reminder, like a post it on his hand, for those things.

Re: Forgetting stuff at school
Dd has forgotten her folder and work a few times, I've never gone back to school...she can just do the work the next day. I've asked other moms for the spelling words, and other moms have asked me. Stuff happens, they are in 2nd grade now so maybe it will get harder when they are older.

Forgetting stuff at school
In middle school, they carry everything in one large binder, so if they forget it they get an F for every single class. If I can avoid that by dropping by the school for it, I will. A homework F when they are older drops their grade by a few points and their overall average. I know it is their responsibility, and I wouldn't make a habit of it. But everyone slips sometimes and I don't see the point in letting his grade slip so much for one mistake.

Re: Forgetting stuff at school
My DS has forgotten stuff this year and he has gotten in trouble by me but I never went back to school. He just had to double hwk the next day. It's his responsibility. As he gets older, if it's constant and effecting his grade then there will be repercussions.

Re: Forgetting stuff at school
I'd like to think I'd never, but on the occasion I do there will be consequences.

Forgetting stuff at school
LOL never
But I'm that mean mom. Hey you had your chance, you missed it. Welcome to the real world. She is graded in 1st grade so she's pretty solid about remembering to bring it home. Now if only she'd DO it at school instead!
That said, I *HAVE* gotten the book or bag if I'm standing in the school and she says "I left it in the room". I mean I'm right there. But if the door is locked (not that it has been) then she's out of luck.
She left it in her kinder class once, took the wrong bag home once and left her book in class once so far.
