How often do you lecture? A good, old school lecture?

Ever? Often?

Almost never. There has to be an activity associated with the lesson. I taught in a district recently where it was ok in the IB and AP social studies classes.

Just lecture? Never! I usually do a do now, motivation, lecture, activity, wrap up. My 10th graders can barely handle 15-20 minutes of guided notes!

I have never done a full period lecture either, but I was just thinking that I wish I could.

Actually, I could at my school, but I don't think it would have much value anymore, which saddens me.

never- the doe requires you do direct instruction for like 10 mins max, then all group activity and "turn and talk" activity where the students develop their own conclusions about how to answer the guiding question of the day. In my opinion, they would learn alot more and we would cover ALOT more material if I could teach it to them. a 10 min lesson turns into 4 days lol
