Update in OP no barking??
Anyone have a dog that doesn bark? We took home our adopted mutt from NSAL last night. Still have not heard one bark from her. She is othrrwise a playful, calm, affectionate sweet girl. She doesnt seem nervous at all and is adjusting well and fits right in. We rang the doorbell, she played with my neighbors yapping dog, went to the park and had visitors over and not a peep.
She did whimper at 1am and 545 am while in her crate but not for long.
i am taking her to a vet next week and will ask if she is normal lol
***UPDATE*** She barked once so far.... at my EX husband when he came to get the kids

how old is the dog? We adopted a puppy who was about 2 1/2 months old, and she honestly didnt bark at all until she was about 6-7 months. We thought...wow shes so quiet!! Now she is 9 months, and still isnt a big barker, but she def does it if shes being ignored or at a rabbit in the yard :)

Re: no barking??
She's still adjusting to her new surroundings. It took both my adopted pups some time before they used their voice. Very normal.

thanks. Did yours otherwise behave totally "normal" relaxed, calm, comfortable but not nervous?

Re: no barking??
My dog isn't really a barker (and she's a beagle!!)
She never ever barks at the doorbell or when people come in the door.
She will bark once in awhile at a squirrel on a walk or playing with other dogs at the park, but in the house she howls occasionally but that is it. Our vet said that some dogs are just naturally more soft spoken. If she whimpers and whines she can vocalize so I wouldn't worry about it.
If your dog is acting playful and not nervous her first day home, that is a great sign!

1 took a little more time to warm up to his new family. We adopted him from a shelter, The other one was completely normal like he lived with us all his life. We adopted him from an at home rescue organization.

We adopted from there also. Brough him home in 2/3 hours i swear he was so adjusted, playful, eating, drinking, following us around. Barely barked till probably a good month. Now he barkes when he hears people outside but can't see them. Other then that he barely barks. He has this whine type sound when he wants are attention though that he does all the time.

no barking??
We got our dog from NS over the summer. He definitely didn't bark for a while and was pretty nervous and took a while to settle in. Now, he barks when someone comes to the door or sometimes when he has to go out, but overall, not very often. I wouldn't worry that yours hasn't barked yet. I'm sure she will and is just getting settled in her new home. Congrats and enjoy your new dog!

I got my dog when she was about 1 yr old and it took her time to learn she had a set of lungs, because the only the that made her bark was birds other dogs

no barking??
We had a non barker adopted at 2yrs old he's now 10 and just started barking. He used to sit at the door and whine to come in and we would never hear him. he still rarely barks unless we leave him outside and hes ready to come in. We praise him when he barks so I guess he finally found his voice.

Update in OP no barking??
We adopted our dog a year ago when he was 8-9 months old. He never barked! It took a few months for him to start barking here and there. Now, if he hears people talking outside or another dog walks past the house, he barks his head off.

And just like that, she's YOUR dog.
Seriously though, some dogs are just more vocal than others. We had a beagle that we fostered for 2 months and he never barked or howled, which is particularly strange for a beagle since they are notorious howlers! One night my friends were over and we were hanging out and he let out one quick bark. We all looked around confused as hell. Never heard him bark again- though I'm sure his forever home would disagree! But he lived a long, happy, healthy if quiet life.

Re: Update in OP no barking??
My dog rarely barks.
She was like two or three by the time I first heard her bark.
And it's unusual for her breed - a schnauzer. They are terriers and usually very vocal. To this day, she's over five years old, I think I can count on one hand the amount of times she has barked.

please help! When I first got my miniature schnauzer, he didn't bark for 6 months. We taught him the command to speak, and he usually only barked on command. Now, after the birth of my children, he does not shut up. He's wonderful, well behaved, but barks alllll the time! What do I do?
