What age to get rid of most stuffed animals?

I've been tossing a lot here and there but they keep multiplying, lol. My kids are 9,7 and 6. My 9 yr old has a thing for monkeys and right now there are 14 monkeys lined up in my hallway! Is it unrealistic for me to ask him to pick some to donate? My DD collects the beanie boo things and my youngest actually has 2 favorite animals and that's it. How do you handle stuffed animals so they are not taking over the house?

Same thing here. While they're at school, I've taken some of the non-descript ones and brought them to the attic without them knowing. I suppose if they're never mentioned, I'll secretly toss them out.

I try not to purchase them. My son has four, and one of them was mine from when I was younger. My dd is now getting into stuffed animals, but when we do our annual donations I work with her on donating them. She has five favorites which she sleeps with, and a few on a chair in her room. My kids are younger than yours are, but I still have my one favorite and my son has my other favorite stuffed animal so I am not going to put an age limit on them.

Its like clothes.. if you haven't seen it in 6m then its gone. I have a full BIN of them. And that's REDUCED! She gets them from friends and relatives. They have slowed down. Some are sentimental or things I spent money on so I keep those.

*sigh* reminds me its time to purge.

ETA - Oh she's 6 but the purge started around 4 I guess?
