Recovering from a binge :(
Ugh. I had a long history of compulsive over eating and being overweight and I got it under control years ago and have been healthy and fit since. I've been under a LOT of stress with my kids lately and have been slipping and today was just a total unhinged binge day :( I went to the gym to try to undo some damage and plan on going tomorrow and through the weekend but I was wondering if there was a healthy way to recover caloricly on the nutrition side. Any quick doable cleanses? Also how to recover mentally? I hate that out of control feeling :(

Re: Recovering from a binge :(
I always do the master cleanse, which is hard and is for 10 Days. Perhaps a 3-day juice cleanse? Or limited carbs and no sugar for a week? I started the south beach again about a week ago and noticed a difference in inches. Lost about 2lbs. I'm also not eating meat because I gave it up for lent. A lot of fish and veggies!
Don't beat yourself up, you are still working out and starter eating clean. I found its easier for me to lose weight if I stop focusing on the past and my binge eating and focus on eating right and working out.

Recovering from a binge :(
Imo all you can do is go back to eating healthy. There are no quick fixes. And I don't believe in cleanses. Our organs cleanse our body. You don't need anything else. Just know it was a slip and start back. Going to the gym like made won't help either. Weight is 95% what we put in our mouths and exercising just helps it along.
And try not to beat yourself up over it. We all have bad times. It more about how we pick ourselves back up and get on track.

This. Cleanses are BS. Your body "cleanses" on its own. Maybe add some extra fiber via fresh veggies but basically just get back to hea.thy eating.

Just work on the stress part. Try some deep breathing or meditation for even 5 minutes. Dont worry about a one time binge and "cleansing". It sounds like your need to prevent future binges by controlling stress. Going to the gym is a stress reliever but sometimes I need to make sure i am working on sleep and mental health to stay at a good weight.

I have to disagree, there are toxins in your body from eating bad that does not clean on its own. Cleanses don't work if you do unhealthy ones or go back to eating crap after you do it. If you ever had a colonoscopy, they give you something to cleanse out your system because your body doesn't get rid of all the toxins from eating bad.
Eta: I have done the master cleanser twice the right way. After I am done I feel more energetic and see all the garbage that comes out of my body. Obviously you lose some weight but my main purpose of doing it is to cleanse out the bad stuff in my body.
Op I only suggested it as way to make yourself feel better, since it has worked for me and several others. Everybody weight loss journey is different. Like I said don't be too hard on yourself.

Re: Recovering from a binge :(
Agreed with the girls the others. No need to "cleanse."
As for the binge it sounds like you have identified WHY you binged which is so important! If you can identify the trigger, you can come up with a plan for what you will do if you start feeling the same way.
As far as the gym, NEVER use exercise as a method of "punishment" for what you ate. Acknolwedge the binge and continue on your way doing your regular workouts and eating yuor regular meals!

I don't believe in cleanses or quick fixes either. Just get back on track with clean/healthy eating, drink a lot of water and exercise.

These! Cleanses they give for colonoscopies aren't to remove toxins, Its to make sure all fecal matter is out of the colon so the camera gets a clear picture of the colon without sh@t in the way, lol!

Re: Recovering from a binge :(
I'm looking into doing this juice cleanse.
http://www.jusbyjulie.com/the-jus-cleanse.html
I work near the cedar hurst location and the juices are filling and delicious. For me, it's about the mental "cleanse." And I don't think I'd feel deprived and starving.
Good luck ! Sounds like you just had a bad day. Forgive yourself and move on, you're only human.

I agree. I was a binger and compulsive over eater and am recovered over 20 years. After a binge I would try to go back to healthy habits. The most important thing though is breaking yourself from binging when you go through something stressful. It's so hard!!!

Posted by Sash If you ever had a colonoscopy, they give you something to cleanse out your system because your body doesn't get rid of all the toxins from eating bad. .
I just want to clarify, the reason they give you something to "clean you out" before a colonoscopy has nothing to do with toxins. It's because they need to get rid of any remaining stool that could obscure the view of the colon. They are using a camera to look at the colon, so they need a clear view otherwise things could be missed.
