Telling family
How far along were you when you told your parents? Other family members? Friends?
Did you tell them in any special way?

Telling family
I went through Ivf and my parents and a few best friends knew so they all knew kinda early bc they knew when I went for blood work and stuff. We waited till 12 weeks to tell the rest of the family and announce on Facebook.
I always liked the cute announcements! We did a gender reveal with cupcakes this time around and it was a lot of fun!

With #1, I waited til just after my first appointment. With my mom and her side of the family, I had them over for a bbq and got a cake with the words "we're having a baby" on it. Then they read it. With my dad and IL's, we had them over for my dad and mil's birthday and got them each a card that said happy birthday grandma/grandpa. I got all of it on video.
With #2, I just told family and it was when I was pretty early on, before my first appointment.

I told my mom the night I got my BFP. I waited until after my second beta level to tell my sister and father- they sort of figured it out because we were on a cruise and I was not drinking at all. I did not tell anyone else until 13 weeks.

Telling family
My parents drove me to IVF appointments and blood tests when DH couldn't, my mom did my IVF shots, and they covered the cost of my meds; plus is work with my dad and Uncle. So I always knew I'd tell them immediately.
When I got the call my Uncle found out first because my desk is right outside his office and he heard my side of the convo with the dr and new. My DH found out second because I called him. Then my dad came into the office late, so he found out 3rd, and then I called my mom. My uncle spilled the beans to my cousins immediately, but they kept it quiet.
We waited about 1 week to tell MIL/FIL and about 2 more to tell his brothers. Also around 1.5 months we told my grandfather because he was 92 and in rough shape. So we wanted to make sure he knew should something happen to him. Sadly he dies before DD was born, but he made it to my reveal.
I also told a few friends who were aware of my IVF and supporting me.
Everyone else we waited until 12 weeks.

Re: Telling family
Told my parents around 12 weeks. My sister then too.
Close Friends not until maybe a month later. FB friends found out when she was born and my sis posted a pic of her and tagged me .
Work not until about 6 months along.
I was very private and felt uncomfortable announcing and discussing my pregnancy so I kept it all super low key.

Re: Telling family
Our parents and some close cousins/aunts knew we were doing IVF so told them right away with DS.
With this one we were just seeing if anything would happen naturally and it did! I told my mom and one cousin immediately, everyone else we did tell early, like 8 weeks.

We told our parents and siblings after we heard the heartbeat at 7 weeks.
I told my cousin at 9 weeks because she called me to tell me she's pregnant and her due date is 5 days after mine! Lol
We just told DH's aunts, uncles and cousins last night (12w3d.) We weren't planning on it but we ended up having the perfect opportunity so we went with it. I'll be telling the rest of my family on Easter (12w6d.)
I think we will wait until 14 weeks to tell our close friends. We're not posting it on social media.

My girlfriend Myranda actually found out about 30 minutes after I did because she happened to call me from her home in Seattle as I was leaving the doctors office. She knew I was going through IUI and clomid tries so she was calling to see if there "was any news."
Hubby found out that night. Coworkers (4 other dietitians and my manager) found out the next morning. They all knew I left work early the day before to visit the RE. They all knew from the beginning of my journey to get preggers what was going on from week to week so I certainly couldn't just walk into work and act as if it was another BFN.
Family found out when I was about 6 weeks pregnant (2-3 weeks after I found out initially) at family functions.
Friends from the 6 week point on. FB friend at the 12 week mark (after the initial genetic testing came back good).

Re: Telling family
We told our families at 10wks. I wanted to wait until 12-13weeks but DH was too excited and couldn't hold the secret in any longer. We bought our moms t-shirts saying "This gal is going to be a grandma in August", with fingers pointing up.

I did IVF so I waited it out especially after some bleeding episodes. My immediate family found out after I got the genetics results back so that was between 11-12 weeks. I usually wait even later after level 2 ultrasound but I felt confident enough around 12 weeks to spill the beans.

Oh yeah FB friends won't know until my third trimester.
I have a history of late term losses so I tend to shy away from making it known.

Re: Telling family
I told my dad and brother at 10 weeks- I had them come over for advice on a color to paint the room. Then I gave my dad a box with a framed sono photo with pink and blue tissue.
We told DH's family at 11 weeks and had everyone raise some glasses in a toast and when everyone asked why I didn't have one, DH said that pregnant women aren't allowed to drink.
Friends found out around 13-14 weeks in various ways.
My extended family we told at a big family gathering when I was 14 weeks. We had everyone gather for a picture and then actually took video. We did the whole "Say Cheese!!......Say 'J is pregnant!!!'". The reaction was PRICELESS!! Definitely one of my favorites!

We told my MIL the same day we found out along with a few close friends because we were seeing them that night. My parents we told a week later because they were away and I didn't want to tell them over the phone. Work was 12 weeks after my NT scan.

Our parents and siblings knew right away because we had been having problems getting pregnant and ended up going to a fertility doctor (an iui finally worked). We told our family at 10 weeks and made it "Facebook official" at 12.

We had our parents over for dinner the day after Valentine’s Day. We got them Grandparent V’Day cards to announce to them. I was 8 weeks.
I told my grandmas at 10 weeks. I made them each a plaque that said Only the BEST Grandma’s get promoted to GREAT Grandmas. It took the one who read it two tries to understand what it meant. I have it on video – it’s hysterical.
Told extended family and some neighbors/family friends at 15 weeks.
I have not posted anything on facebook yet since I got some positive tests last appointment and want to see how this one goes (tonight). If it weren't for my parent’s wanting to announce so badly, I would probably wait a few more weeks.
I haven’t told work yet but probably will next week once one of my bosses is back from vacation and I know more test results. They haven’t questioned all of my appointments just yet.
I've told some friends along the way depending on conversations we were having. I haven't just came straight out and said it to anyone. Turns out of of my longest friends is due 5 days before me.

Re: Telling family
Our parents - I was about 8 weeks (after we saw the HB on sonogram). We went to Disney when i was 6-7 weeks and we had the kids wear Disney t-shirts we had made that said "I have a secret! I am going to be a big brother/sister!"
When we returned from Disney and showed the grandparents the pics, they saw the kids wearing the shirts.
Turns out though, that my DS ratted me out to my dad earlier than that b/c he was talking to him on the phone and told him "mommy can't go on the roller coasters because of the baby in her belly!" Oops!
Friends and extended family shortly after that. We just showed them the sono pic.
