Hi ladies - should have done this sooner but gotta go to the dentist - is it safe to get dental work done (excluding xrays) while TTC - is the novicaine and filling material ok? If any of you have input I would appreciate it! Thank you :)

Re: Dentist while TTC
while TTC and during PG xrays are ok. you need to be double layered with the lead apron. You should have any and all dental tx done prior to becoming pg. the materials are safe and they will not use lidocaine ( we dont use novacaine anymore- that is what its called now, lidocaine) they will use carbocaine -which does not have any epi in it but you will not be as numb and may feel some discomfort, but worth it.
Go now for an exam/xrays and cleaning prior to becoming pg, you will continue to need cleanings throughout your pg due to changes in your gums and if you have cavities you want to do them prior to becoming pg.
totally safe, in 1 of my other offices I worked in, we did a root canal on a woman 6 months pg. her baby was born happy and healthy! and mommy was happy too.
I myself had fillings- 2 of them done prior to becoming pg, took xrays and all. I was really ****** to see I had cavities, havent had them in over 15 years!!! but thank ful I did them prior b/c in our minds there is always that safety issue with the xrays but it is totally safe- no documentation to prove otherwise. good luck!
