Annoyed with Panera...

I usually go through the drive thru and many times have ordered an iced decaf coffee with my lunch. Well today the line was super long, so I figured I'd just park and go in. So I ordered an iced decaf and the girl said we dont have that, only regular iced. So what have they been serving me when I go through drive thru??? I usually have my cup of reg coffee in the morning but sometimes like to have decaf in the afternoon. I'm so annoyed with them! If they dont have it fine, but dont serve me something else. And its not just a one time fluke thing, I've gotten in at drive thru many times.

They dont have it ever. I even looked near where all the cold drinks, iced teas & regular iced coffee are and there is no decaf iced coffee...there isnt even room for another container.

I never have caffeine normally because I have a heart problem and stuff like this infuriates me. Some people can get seriously sick from caffeine. It's very noticeable to me, because after a few sips my heart rate is though the roof and I'll stop drinking it, but what if you DON'T notice (as I'm guessing you didn't).

I would absolutely complain to the manager and let them know that you're calling corporate. It's not a joke. While I don't think the extra caffeine will harm your baby, this is a bigger issue and you would be able to prevent it from happening to someone else.

IMO, it's worse than serving an allergen for someone with a food allergy, because with food at least you can see it and know not to eat it.

I'm so sorry. People are inconsiderate jerks.

I would absolutely let corporate know. Post on their facebook page - that seems to get things moving faster than a phone call.
Make it known because as stated above it could be a serious issue for someone.

I would be furious as well but I don't think you should worry yourself. Aren't we allowed up to 200mg of caffeine a day? That's about 2 cups (depending on the size of course)

Before iced coffee was a "thing," some places would put lots of ice & some hot coffee into an oversized cup & add milk, if needed.

Not saying that they are definitely doing it, but maybe you had a sympathetic drive thru person.

I can tell when I have caffeine vs no caffeine.

I wound call the manager or go in there to tell them. I'd be pissed. If they don't offer it just say so.

Yes, they may be using hot decaf poured over ice. I'd verify before you get someone in trouble with their job.

Re: Annoyed with Panera...

I'd go back and ask and see if its decaf over ice or they say its actually decaf iced coffee. Then ask the manager to confirm if they make it. Some ppl really don't know better although they should.

Re: Annoyed with Panera...

While I agree that some people should always avoid caffeine, and that if they are truly serving you regular coffee when you ask for decaf it is WRONG, your baby will be absolutely fine on one coffee/day so don't worry too much about that! Chat Icon Definitely talk to the store and see what the deal is!!

A PP said that hidden caffeine can be worse than a food allergen b/c you can see the food...i have to disagree. Food allergies can lead to anaphylaxis, killing someone. I've never heard of caffeine doing that. I have a really really bad almond allergy and found a sliver of almond in a salad I specifically ordered without. And I only found it because my throat starting itching and I broke into a sweat while eating the salad and dug around and found tiny almond slivers in it. Not good at all :(

First let me say this there is caffeine in decaf coffee; not as much as in regular but if you compare the 2 they are not that far off. I've been drinking caffeine for the last 3 weeks. Can't help it but each morning I stop at Panera and get a Iced Green Tea with no ice and later in the day I must have a Barq which also has caffeine. No issues with my bean.
