Everyone, including a lot of pool places we went to have said how easy it is to maintain your own pool. We're new to all this so I'm overwhelmed by it. What's the approximate cost for weekly maintenance? If anyone can share what they pay and what it includes I'd appreciate it. We have a 17x35 inground pool.

Sorry I can't hep with the cost but I'm curious to know.

Last year was the first time I had a pool and I did it myself. I vacuumed with a hand vac once a week - sometimes I skipped a week but we don't have any trees in our yard. I would skim whenever I saw the need to.
DH would put the chlorine tabs in every Sunday.
I rarely shocked unless I saw the pool was starting to get green.
We don't have kids and just had friends kids over a handful of times so it didn't get overused.

Since I'll be 7 mo pregnant come pool time this summer, we just purchased a robo-vac.

I learned most of what to do by reading troublefreepool.com and asking friends and family who have pools.

I have someone open and close for me who does weekly service. If you want to PM me I'll give him your info and you can get a quote from him.

We have about the same size pool. I'm not going to lie, the first season was insane. I wouldn't break it down by weekly costs, but that year I think we spent well over $1500 for chemicals and maintenance. It was also a lot of work to figure out how to do everything, we had a lot of repairs that we needed to make to it, and we had some replacing of parts of the filter that were needed. We also had no clue how to keep it up. The year after was easier, and last year was crazy easy... I think we spent all of $300-500 for the season last year.
